I ordered a pack of 6 deodorant cans on Amazon, assuming I was buying directly from Amazon as usual. Instead only two cans turned up and they were a completely different type to what I ordered. It is the sort of deodorant you could have bought vastly cheaper from Boots UK anyway.

What surprised me was discovering afterwards that the item was actually sold via an Amazon marketplace seller. I had not really clocked that at the time and assumed it was standard Amazon stock. It does make you realise how many third party sellers they now host, and some of them frankly look like scammers or at least people shifting whatever random stock they have.

The amount involved is negligible but it is the principle. I ordered six specific items and instead received two of something else entirely. Despite the small value I am still trying to get the order refunded, and it seems far more convoluted when a marketplace seller is involved rather than dealing directly with Amazon.

Has anyone dealt with this before and is there a straightforward route to force a refund when the goods supplied clearly are not what was ordered?

Have you reported this to Amazon? They’re usually pretty good at dealing with complaints.

Yep, I avoid any non Amazon sellers except for secondhand books and a few trusted places like Woolyhatshop for bike parts.

And for books I check Ebay first as it is sometimes cheaper there.

World of Books is also very often cheaper for books than Amazon these days as well.

I just go on the Amazon chat and they refund me. It seems random who the supplier / shipper is - can't say I've noticed any difference. Also random whether they want the incorrect or faulty item back or not.

Took me 3 weeks to get a refund form a non-Amazon seller.

I had to supply proof of postage to Amazon, despite using the pre-printed return label from the Amazon website, before Amazon would take it up with the seller.
I then had to provide the same info to the seller.
Might as well just buy from eBay.

We are still suffering very long delivery delays here, as the local Amazon depot (Redruth) has been out of action for 3 months.
Most deliveries are being handled by Royal Mail or DPD, 4 or 5 days.
