Received an NIP but it is over 14days from the offence.

Got caught in Wifes car, who was issued with and NIP, but she was up with her parents for two weeks. When she returned she filled it out as me as the driver (she has my car, I had hers).

I have now had the NIP through but the offence was on the 23/9 and the date of the NIP issued to me was 10/10. To me that is over the 14days of notification but I am not sure if that is a real law or not.

What thoughts?

Chris

PS Good old Northants Police have issued the NIP.

14 Days is to issue the NIP to the registered keeper so the NIP is valid

Mine took 7 wks - lease company, my employer (group), my employer (local office), me.
In reality I don't know if the first one was inside 14 days, but the law assumes it was, if Police say they posted it.

I'm not sure if it's law or not but when there's ackers involved you don't stand a chance.

The NIP needs to be with the registered keeper (your wife?) within the 14 days(ish), not the driver at the time.

If she kept the envelope then check the post date on that, otherwise check www.pepipoo.com for your next defence - the LT2020 is looking increasingly weak if that was the method used.

Cheers
