...but yesterday A11 towards Wymondham, the parasites were up there collecting their revenue.

I was in traffic heading towards them and as I approached the Shell station what did I see happening as they came into view around the corner? An instant transformation from nicely spaced, orderly cars looking safe to random brake lights, lane changing and bunching.

Last week a cyclist was mown down near there in the fog. Don't know the details but I'll bet anyone on this board 50 quid the car involved wasn't speeding.

I think I'm going to set up a camcorder next time they're scamming to video the increased danger levels their "safety" camera creates as people notice it, then send it to Look East to broadcast.

Surely they don't have EVERY channel of media in their pockets do they?

Well I hope the cyclist wasnt mown down by a car who was speeding, but from your the first paragraph above, this is exactly what they do on this road, otherwise why would they all slam on the brakes when they see a camera?.

As much as the majority of us disagree with speed limits and the revenue gathering vultures, I am afraid that as long as drivers ignore the limits, they will continue to pay the fine. If you want to put the scammers, call them what you like, out of business, do what I do, stick to the stated limits, you get there just as quick, less stress. Never had a ticket in over 36 years of motoring, and no, I dont doodle, I keep up with the NSL where road conditions allow.

How was the cyclist by the way?

Yes if their revenue is cut they'll go out of business (and yes, that's exactly the right term -- they are businesses like any other, their revenue stream is speeding fines)

I'm puzzled though about how you overtake someone in an NSL who's doing 50? I will get past them as quick as I can, and this sometimes involves breaching the 60mph limit. For you to deliberately prolong the time you're on the wrong side of the road by sticking to 60 sounds a bit dangerous to me.

Also, by driving at the NSL and guaranteeing not to speed means you're driving in a really tight range of speed -- like 59/60 up and down hill. You must spend a huge amount of concentration making sure you don't ever stray to 61? Do you think that's the wisest place for your concentration to be spent?

One more thing... Have you ever driven in Suffolk/Norfolk (A12/A140 for example) where the sandalists have created the most perplexing array of 30/40/50/60/70 speed limits including many of these new "Out of Town 30s" they love so much? I defy anyone to keep up with those limits whilst spending the proper amount of concentration on driving safely...

Oh and of course, it's very well documented and understood now that sticking to the speed limit doesn't guarantee these jokers and their dodgyscopes won't find you guilty of speeding!

Well having driven many thousands of miles in over 30 years of motoring without a ticket must say something. Yes overtaking is difficult, and a fast overtake is safer. I was just commenting on your choice of words of "all" the brake lights coming, which implies to me the majority were speeding. (which they propably were.

Keeping to the limit, well I cheat, I have cruise control, use it 90% of the time, marvelous invention, yes I know all cars dont have it, but lets be honests with ourselves her, the majority of road users seem to exceed set speed limits daily, and then moan when they get zapped, what can I say.

I dont agree with the scameras either, but unfortunately in this day of "I dont care what the signs say, I will do what ever I bloody well like on this road" attitude, maybe we need them. We all agree (I am sure) that 70 should be raised, but other limits, well I dont know so cant comment.

Not had the pleasure of driving in Norfolk for many years now, but I do recall that nice long straight (used to be single carriageway-maybe still is) coming out of Gt Yarmouth heading into Norwich.

Safe motoring, and keep an eye out for the scameras.

I'll second that.

Media stories always seem to be focused around dodgy surveys that tell us that everyone is pro camera and you rarely get both sides of the story.

Would you like a visa to our planet?

You think if everybody sticks to the speed limit, no income for the scammers and so they close up shop.

WRONG!

There's too much money being made from the "business" of scamming. They'd just lower the limits further, blaming it on the "statistics" they've twisted to suit themselves. (a bit like they do now)

Probably when they reduce them so much we are all stopped... they'll start writing parking tickets.

It does not matter what speed they are actually travelling at, the majority of 'numpty' drivers will always brake when they see a camera 'just in case'. I was following a numpty last time I visited the UK, she was driving at 28 in a 40 limit, she saw a Gatso and immediately braked to around 22 mph.

Unfortunately these knee-jerk numpty's merely further the argument for having cameras. If your driving is so incompetent that you feel the need to brake for a camera whilst driving at well below the stated speed limit then you are clearly incapable of driving safely at a higher speed..!
