Just a point- which has probably been covered before ,(but I have missed) - aren't speed cameras supposed to be visible nowadays?? My sympathies go out to the drivers who pass through Tintwistle and the next village which I cannot recall the name of - they have some VERY inconspicuous cameras, in a subtle shade of GREEN !!!
Wonder how many unsuspecting motorists have been rumbled by these ?????

Was in Manchester last weekend and on the way in (A 628?) passed many green, 'camoflaged' scameras.

Yep they're the ones - in bushes, amongst green leafy foliage. On the up side the greenery is dying back a bit at this time of year, so they are more visible - probably the 'scamera bods' argument about them being visible !

I thought it was a "guideline" that they are highly visible, not law.

The big question is, Has anyone been caught by the cameras near Glossop that are green and camouflaged? They warn if you approach too fast, but is it you they capture? What is the truth?

There are cameras around that neck of the woods called (IIRC) the "Sentinel". I understand that they a) flash the speed if you go too fast and b) film the occurence for statistics gathering - but no NIP. I think the green ones are Longendale Council and the dark blue ones Tameside Council

It is, but even the guidelines allow them to paint them any colour they want if required eg areas of natural beauty etc

Some of the cameras up here are a nice shade of dark blue.. although they do have the red and yellow reflective stripes on the back, so it's not too bad.

Road angel list them as speed cameras. If no NIP is it necessary to warn?

YES, YES, YES.

If you think about the rules for setting up a scamera.
If there is a speeding 'Problem' it can be used to justify a full on scamera.
Why do you think they are gathering statistics?
Safe road that allows traffic to flow slightly above crap limit, cash convertor!
