Just having a bored moment so thought I would check out my local 'Safety' Camera Partnership's website, just to see if any new cameras have popped up.

Whilst looking I noticed these stats for this camera:
http://www.lincssafetycamera.com/CameraLocation_htm/A17SwinesheadWB.asp

Now call me stupid but why is this camera here if there have been no KSI's on this stretch of road????

The piece of road in question where its situated is just as you enter a 40mph zone after nsl, the camera is aiming at you just as you enter this 40 zone and then cross a level crossing (nice bit of distraction there eh!) so you slow down anyway.

Can anybody shed any light why this camera is here? How far back do they need to go to collect figures for KSI's to justify a camera? Is Lincs Road 'Safety' Partnership so stupid as to post info like this??

Also noticed this one - http://www.lincssafetycamera.com/CameraLocation_htm/A16JohnAdamsWay.asp which states a 50% reduction in KSI's even though the figure is the same for before and after the camera was there.

And finally this one -http://www.lincssafetycamera.com/CameraLocation_htm/BrantRoadLincoln.asp which shows the number of KSI's going UP after installation!!!!

Maybe I am reading the figures wrong, but it doesn't look like Lincs 'Safety' Camera Partnership are really doing a good job in these areas!! They have only just put a speed camera sign on their cam van!!

Just a quick reply to note that the first camera in question (near Swineshead bridge) was actually set on fire a few months ago and was totally melted! It hasn't been replaced since but the white lines on the road are still present!!

Found this (I must be bored)

March 25, 1998 Swineshead Bridge, Lincolnshire 156.406
Central Trains 14:24 Skegness to Crewe service collided with a lorry at Swineshead Level crossing on the A17 road.

Obviously warrants a speed camera then

What does the speed reduction figure show?

I strongly suspect their main motivation is revenue generation.

Yes because if the lorry was going 3mph slower it would have missed the train!!

For the first camera you mentioned the stats are:

Year Est. : 1998
PIC* Before (3 yrs) : 1
PIC* After Annual Average : 1
% PIC* Reduction : -40%

Which leaves me with two questions. First, is a negative reduction actually an increase? Secondly, there is no change in the before and after figures shown here.

I'm curious about the stats where I live now....

There's a forest of the bastids up on the A12 Brentwood bypass (both sides) which weren't live on saturday......however imminent roadworks in november may be why they're there?
I somehow doubt they'll be removed though?

stats stats and .... (what was the quote?)

Looking atwww.lincssafetycamera.com/CollisionData.asp

first piece of data.
site:A1 Colsterworth N/B
year installed.......1998
PIC before...........5
PIC after............22
%PIC reduction.......152%
KSI CAS before.......1
KSI CAS after........3
%KSI CAS reduction...80%
% speed reduction....-80%

Clearly this camera worked!!

But yes I hear it does speed was down 80%!!
pity the addition 2 KSI after though.

what did the last person say?

Ahh, Camera partnerships at their very best - cherry picking stats!!
A -40% reduction I assume is supposed to be a reduction, as when there's an increase the % is left blank, as in the later example of KSI's. Having said that, the 2 before and 2 after KSI's shows a 50% reduction?!
My fave is the -100% speed reduction stat, does that mean speed has doubled at that site or every driver now does zero mph there?

These stats are similar to the ones in my area which show mainly increases in accidents at camera sites since the partnership started in 2002.

When did they ever adhere to the 15% of motorists wishes?

that would be 15% of drivers that are total numpties. You know, the 40mph crew etc. I suspect the actual percentage is a lot higher though....
