the power of marketing
Discussion
When I was a company director some years ago, I was introduced to a thing called 'direct response marketing'
It basically showed you how to take a product - any product - and sell it.
'The success of your business has nothing to do with how good your product is (although a good product will help), the success depends ENTIRELY on the marketing.
Without going on about the techniques involved you can actually see this type of marketing at work. Why else would people buy bottles of water?, or pseudo scientific babble products - 'healthy hair' - your hair is dead by the way, or digestivated biffidoodum digestive transit to help you go for a tom tit?
The government are good at marketing.
'We are investing 90,000 pounds into every state school - 'here here'' (they were investing 80+ grand anyway, plus inflation).
95% of people are now seen by their GP within two days (surgeries won't book you in unless there is a free slot in the next two days) .
Loan companies are good at marketing.
'Give us a ring, and we can consolidate all your debts into one easy to manage repayment, leaving you with cash to spare!'
translates to 'give us a ring, we'll pay all your debts for you and replace them with one HUGE debt, which you can repay over the rest of your life, giving you the misconception that you have more money to spend than you have, so you can get into more debt, then when you can't pay we'll have you nicely appreciated house off you!!'
Manufacturers of speed detection equipment have GREAT marketing.
Make something that looks like a gun, that people will enjoy holding, aiming and firing (everyone loves to five guns, be they real, electronic, video game, whatever) and say that the reading is absolutely accurate and can't give false readings, and how wonderfully you can carry out enforcement with it.
I contacted a safety camera partnership. The spokesman has letters after her name.
I looked them up thinking they were maybe 'doctorate of vehicle safety' or 'fellow of transport' or whatever.........know what they were?
