They were putting the cameras on the top of the 4 bright yellow poles today when I came through. Looks as though the poles are only a couple of hundred yards apart and that all poles will be monitoring both directions....

Obviously the reason for the first four weeks of lane closures and 50mph limits was NOTHING to do with the actual junction rebuilding. All the carriageway work so far has been to just put in the SPECS system.

There are still no speed camera warning signs on this stretch.

I saw these spring up over the last few days so surely the signs will have to appear before the cameras are activated.

The cameras went up yesterday and are causing accidents.

I go across to Manchester 4 days a week and have not seen any accidents in the time the roadworks have been there. Yesterday and today there have been rear-end accidents in the approach to the roadworks - 3 cars yesterday, 4 today. Surely no coincidence that cameras appear, which we all know cause people to brake suddenly, and then ther are accidents.

Not exactly creating safety are they!!

I agree with you. The signs in the M6 roadworks are quite clear about average speed measurement being carried out and people drive accordingly - slow down early and stay at the limit all the way through, if the traffic allows.

Bit of a shame the same signs have not appeared there yet.

Monitoring in both directions? So the old "hiding in the shadow of an HGV" trick won't work then - or at least it becomes more challenging. Not that I ever speed through roadworks, not even in the early hours when the only things on the road are me and the aforementioned HGV; not me, absolutely not, wouldn't dream of it, irresponsible, scare the hedgehogs, speed kills you know, think of the children, hurrumph.

There is a method to allow you to drive in complete safety, its called looking at the road ahead, like we all used to do. Only thats not allowed any more, however if your were to remove any forward facing system of vehicle recognition that one might have then you can concentrate on the road ahead in the knowledge you can't so easily prosecuted for such a henious crime.
