Car Wars last night
Discussion
OK, it was on an obscure Sky channel (and therefore probably a repeat), but it featured the Glasgow car crime squad. They tracked down and prosecuted a car breaker who made his career from stealing cars for parts. It was a huge and highly professional business - they found hundreds of cars in bits, it took them over 6,000 hours to formulate the case, plus CPS time, and cost the taxpayer tens of thousands of pounds.
He pleaded guilty in court. His sentence? £500 fine and six weeks community service.
Good job he didn't do something serious then! What is the world coming to?
His crimes have directly affected hundreds, if not thousands of people, and he gets less punishment than if he'd broken the ton on a motorway.
All credit to the police, but what hope have we got when they're let down so badly by the judiciary?

I had two cars pinched by one guy last year. He eventually pleaded guilty to taking 67 vehicles, and was found guilty on all charges.
His sentence?
100 hours community service.
Remember, we are paying for this shower.
Oli.
Looking at it the other way round.. I would happily do 12 1/2 days community service (in fact I did much more than that while at school) if that then means I can steal 67 cars
Sounds like a great deal, not very discouraging anyway!!
