SORN and DVLA Website
Discussion
Hi all. Been lurking for a while now and find a lot of useful information here so I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with this.
A friend has had her car off the road since June 2004 and has never completed a SORN. However, I looked on the DVLA website yesterday and it states that no SORN is required until June 2006.
Now how accurate is the information on this website? Should she just wait and see if she gets a reminder in May or should she just keep quiet? She's planning on scrapping the car soon as it's just been a garden feature since 2004
And are there any reqirements that she should know about when she does scrap the car? Does she need to let the DVLA know and what does she need to give to the scrapper?
Thanks for your help.

If the vehicle was taken off the road on 30th June,2004 when presumably the Excise Licence expired at that time then SORN should have been declared and again on 30.June 2005.
A month and a few days after Licence expired DVLA should have done a computer run to see which vehicles they have listed as unlicensed and without SORN notification. Those so showing attract an £80 fine by the Reg Keeper (reduced to £40 if paid within 28 days).
Must be something hairy regarding your documentation if you have had no correspondence. Was change of ownership advised when car purchased? Change of address which seems most likely as you make no mention of advisory chits re licence due.
Regarding scrapping a vehicle, then Registration to be sent to DVLA together with a note as to who is to destroy the vehicle (name and address of scrappie).
