Does anyone on here have the laser add-on for the Road Angel Compact?

I got a copmact for Christmas & am in two minds whether it's worth shelling out fifty quid for laser 'protection'. I heard that generally if the unit detects the laser, it could be too late already. Anyone got any views either way?

Cheers, Mark.

i think the problem with laser detectors, is that the laser is only active when pinging a target. if your the target, then youve already been got. if the guy in front/to the side is the target, then i dont think the laser scatters enough to activate your detector.

i could be wrong though

Thats the way I read it too.

There have been many 'boffins' on SP&L pointing out the likelihood of having been pinged at the same time as the alarm,
I have the RA classic and do'nt bother with the golf-ball as it just gets in the way,

There is only ONE WAY to ever be sure anyway,

not that many on here, will likely own up to to having one

about 20 minutes
more for drilling hole for the kill switch.

Best leave the option of removal they say in SP&L though

Sorry; I don't really understand some of the comments above. As I understand it, laser alarms are still legal at the moment.

What I want to know is whether to bother shelling out fifty quid for the add on, or not?

if you use a passive detector it will go off if the laser is pointed at the car and fired but it means that you've already been detected and you may not be able to react quickly enough to reduce your speed to within acceptable parameters, it may be that if you are following someone you may get laser scatter through their windscreen, depending on where the detector is located on your car, a laser detector, like the one you’re thinking of getting, will not jam the laser to give you time to slow down.

If that’s what you want you need another item, usually sold as a device to open electronic gates
