This morning I was heading off to the IAM Sunday drives. Unbeknownst to me as I left my estate I picked up a builders staple int my rear passenger side tyre.

Luckily the drive over to the hotel from where we do the Observed drives is mostly at low speed.

I noticed that the handling of the car wasn't quite right.

I also noticed a traffic copper following me in his T5. Frankly I thought nothing of it as I was, of course , driving under the speed limit and with due consideration.

I was a little surprised when he followed me into the hotel car-park and waited as I reversed my Porsche into a parking spot.

Aye aye I thought.

The chap then gets out and lets me know I've got a flat tyre....which is getting worse and might cause some expensive damnage to the wheel.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

If you're reading you probably saved

1) My skin!
2) An expensive bill.

I shall be getting a new tyre tomorrow.

If you're not a PHer (who can tell?) then I should like john robson, madcop, relaxitscool etc to know that one of you colleagues did me a favour - and PHers should know!

Thanks again, mate. You've done your reputation no harm at all. Especially as I know you had to follow me for a couple of miles to find a safe place to tell me.

Don,

Excellent message and what a great police officer. As you say he has probably saved you a few quid and also offered excellent public service..... I think that we are all too quick to complain but it is harder to dole out praise for good work which I think we expect as a right.

If you are an advanced motorist why did you not carry out checks to see why the handling wasn't right? tut tut.

I had, in fact, walked around the car checking the tyres and had done a moving brake test. I picked up the builder's staple on my way out of the estate.
