Hi,

I was caught speeding on 01 Oct and received my summons over the weekend.

Due in Court 24th feb.

I was clocked doing 114 east bound on the M4 - any advice re getting a solicitor or not? Could anyone recommend a firm? - any idea of cost?

Many thanks.

SS2.

At that speed you are looking at 6 points, or more likely a short ban.

It depends on how much a ban would affect your work etc, and how much you have to lose.

For example, if you are self employed and over a 6 week priod you might lose £6000, then a few hundred quid getting a solicitor to help mitigate the cost may be a good idea.

Similarly, you may find that for some reason that there was a procedural error which means you may be found not guilty. Nick Freeman of Freeman and Co in the Manchester area has an excellent record with cases which are expected to be as good as lost.

However, the financial risk of that is (from memory) about £700 to look at your case, and £4000 a day to represent you. If you win however you will get the majority of this back, perhaps leaving you £1000 short. Whether this is worth the financial risk comes down do how much you will lose from the ban.
