I was driving down the M606 towards the M62 (near Bradford, West Yorkshire) last week and the speed limit goes from 70 MPH to 50 MPH. In the 50 MPH zone there is a speed camera and I was doing 80 MPH.

I didn't see the camera flash, will I get banned for doing 80 MPH on a 50 MPH road?

You can see that camera from a mile away (literally)!

Last time I looked it was a Gatso, so if it didn't flash, you will be OK.

That camera works, a mate of mine got done by it a couple of years back.

I am utterly astounded you didn't see it, its got to be one of the most easily visible cameras in the world.

You'll get banned if you're a new driver, if you've been driving for more than 2 years IIRC you'll be looking at 6 points and a fine.

Thats if you were driving that is.........

I've been driving just over 2 years (passed December 03) never had any points or anything in the past. The funny thing is I knew the camera was there, have done for a few years. I must just have forgotten. So you definately think I won't get banned for this?

We've all done it, especially if you're relatively new to driving. A year or so after I passed my test, I went through a Gatso just after a limit change from NSL to 40, at NSL speeds (was 5am one morning, on my way to work, was on autopilot and miles away). Shat myself as I caught the yellow box disappearing over the top edge of my windscreen. Luckily it didn't flash. Needless to say I've not done it since.

Yar I live about a mile from that camera - it certainly hasn't been working for the past year so you'll hear nothing from it.

ps, don't try it again just in case they activate it.
pps, it REALLY is a visible camera, it's on the slope just as you go up the hill, visible from about 2 miles away

It's easily done when you travel the same route every day.

Hope you didn't get snapped, sounds hopeful to me.

I was doing around 95 on a dual carriageway - largely empty and a dry road (late for a hospital appointment) and just spotted Bib in a field about 1/2 mile away with the speed gun and I was worried for a month but never did get a fine.

And that is exactly the reason I finally got a Road Angel when they put a Gatso up 1/2 a mile from my house !

There's a lesson in there somewhere.......

I've done it on the way into heathrow. I didn't actually see the 50 sign, and on the second time through it was only through activly searching for it. So I whistled through a gatso at 75 in a 50, no flash though. Was on the way to pick my parents up from holiday as well :S

I read somewhere that only 1 in 4 Gatso cameras are actually active.

My Road Angel dos'nt seem to be able to locate a satellite until I've done about 5 miles. I've gone through 2 Gatsos' by then,
