ANPR and speeding
Discussion
Like a lot of people on here I support the concept of a system that catches uninsured drivers. Tax as well I guess, although I would prefer a system whereby tax discs are issued automatically unless you cancel, because I always seem to end up leaving it til the last minute.
But anyway - what is the official position on whether or not ANPR cameras can or will be used to measure average speeds (like SPECS)? Unless we can get a categorical statement that this will never happen, I will be very unhappy!!! Otherwise ANPR will be seen as a way of sidestepping the rising tide of public feeling against Gatsos...

As far as I am aware being looked at by the boffins who also have an inkling to put a speed camera in the cats eyes on the road. With this all recording vehicle movements, mentioned here on this site earlier then monitoring easy and average speeds worked out. Post Office aint half going to be busy......

I wouldn't worry about within 10 yrs you will have GPS units in all cars and shortly afterwards computer control on speed. Its all stated EU policy and the primary reason for the EU spending billions on launching its only GPS system, of which the first satellite was launched last month.
