Foreign export plates & Gatsos
Discussion
Talking to an Italian doctor the other day.
He works here part time, usually flying from Rome but sometimes driving here.
He says he keeps popping gatsos but has never received a ticket.
If the Scamerati know their stuff and recognise your plate as one that's going to be swapped for a UK reg, you might get some jobsworth out on a mission to dredge through the records over the next few months to nail you.
Suppose it depends on how much money they're turning over. If the volume is high, they'll probably not bother to get off their arses.

IIRC don't the NIPs have to be issued withint 14 days of the offence being commited?sleep envy said:
If my car were to be on German export plates and say I were to have been flashed by a Gatso would the DVLA be able to trace me?

A temporary PNC record would be created and it would lead to the vehicle being stopped by Police through ANPR etc. The driver details would be verified and the enquiry would move on from there.
There appear to be a lot of people using this scam and thats why we are clamping down. Apart from this, why should foreign registered cars get away with commiting offences, we dont in other Countries.

I thought ANPR was incapable of reading anything but the standard font on number plates.
If it can read a German plate, why does HMG throw a paddy about non standard plates?

Will the French track you down to the UK to issue a fine these days then? How does that work?

Since Tony signed us up to the European Arrest Warrant, les flics can trundle up to your house, grab you and return you to the land of frogs and snails with a garlic up your bum....
Without even asking....
Even for a French offence that's not illegal in our fair isle....
Thanks Tone, we needed that.....

A local plod told me that if the camera does not recognise your number bacause of a different font style or an illegally spaced number, there is a section of jobsworths who sift through the photos manually to decypher the number.
They are generally doubly pissed off and will not only do you for speeding but also fine you for the dodgy plate.
