OK it seems a long time - but the reason being was that the car hadn't been registered in my name as the dealer whom I bought the car from had forgot to send off the V5 to transfer it into my name.

I now have the V5 back in my name (I bought the car in November 05 which is shown on the V5) and an NIP has promptly shown up 6 weeks after the offence asking me to name the driver.

Is this legal re the 14 day rule etc? Just looking for some advice to see if there is anyway around this.

Thanks

SS2.

The NIP is required to be issued to the registered keeper within 14 days, true. If the DVLA database held the previous RK's details on 1 December 2005, then the NIP should have been served on him / her within 14 days. If it was, then the NIP was valid.

There is no time constraint on the issuing of subsequent NIPs ie yours

What is the document reference date on the V5 ie the date the details were updated ?
