A friend is looking at buying a racecar in the USA .It comes with a fully enclosed trailer.
The length is 28 ft., don't know if that's ball hitch to back or enclosed box + tow hitch area.
Glider trailers are obviously very long but are lightweight & narrow. This one would be 6 ft+ wide & be approx 2.5 tonne gross . Anybody know ?
Thanks

Without full research (don't have a full copy of Con and Use regs) I would say you are looking at a max width of 2.55 metres where MGW doesn't exceed 3,500k and 7 metres length which goes up to 12 metres if drawn by goods vehicle over 3500k.

When you get full details give VOSA (the experts) an E mail and they will confirm.

Most US trailers are illegal in the UK as brakes etc must be approved.
Most US boat trailers need lots of mods & a fair few are unbraked although quite big.
Also depends on over hangs, max width is 9ft 6" including a 1ft overhang each side.
Max length from the top of my head is 7Metres from hitch to rear of trailer, but you can then have over hang on that. In case of boat max towable in the UK is 27ft x 9ft 6.

Another point to consider is what on earth is he going to use to tow a 2.5 tonne trailer? He will need to bear in mind max train weight as well as gross weight capacities.

I used to tow glider trailers and they were really long, about 30ft inc the tow bar, I seem to remember. In across-wind they were a real handful.
