I used to drink {at weekends) in a club FULL of coppers......
And they ALL got in their cars to drive home....I know, because alot of them were my mates.

As you might remember I might have said a few things on various threads suggesting that the Milton affair is not as clear as the press and some on here would have it.
This chap however...... no excuse. Idiot, knew it was wrong, why get something so basic so wrong.
Sorry no sympathy whatsoever here.
I apply a rule for myself no drinking within 12-24 hours of when I know I will drive, duration of delay dependant upon the type of drinky-poos. A casual glass 12 hours, a proper knees up 24 hours. Otherwise no alcofrolic intake and quite happy to be designated driver. Works for me and several others.

I don't disagree.
What I asked was what the difference in occupations has to do with it.
Police Officers like a drink. Many drive and the Law allows this, regardless of occupation.
The problems arise when you drink more than the legal limit and are involved in an incident as listed above. If you don't drink more than the limit, or are not involved in an incident, you have nothing to fear as far as the Law is concerned.
I think it worth bearing in mind that the law does not say you mustn't drink and drive, at all. It simply imposes a limit that must not be exceeded.
Best wishes all,
Dave.

I apply exactly the same rule, always have since I was 17 - never had an issue with it, to me it's obvious, if you touch a drop, you don't get in the car - simple
Bring on zero tolerance
