Fast police response time.
Discussion
My friend at work has a nice classic Impreza, now we work shifts and the car isnt the most quiet of cars, he went home at 1am from a job and pulled up outside his house and left it on the turbo timer for 60secs to warm down. The neighbour then rung the police and reported him having illegal fonted plates (not a rediculous font either) anyway 2am in the morning he's sat with the police in his kitchen recieving a 60 pound fine.
When we reported burgalars at out work depot we didnt even get anyone out because they were to busy up the town.

Does the car have an aftermarket exhaust? I'd be inclined to call the fuzz myself if I had to listen to that warbling on at 1am (in the morning)... I don't think you need to leave it running for a minute if you take it easy for the last mile or two.
Out of interest what was the 60 quid for? Numberplate offence is 30 quid IIRC.
Another factor is do you think your mate makes a hait of destroying the peace in the small hours or was this his first "offence"?

Never done anything like that before to my knowledge, he even parked his car on the road to keep the noise down.
He was given a fine of £30 for each one of the plates which I think is crazy.
£30.00 for each plate... didnt think we were allowed to do that!
I love the My mate stories as the truth gets bent a tad.

Not unusual these days unfortunately..."telephone reporting" are the new buzzwords, it's great, when you are looking at your house having been turned upside down by some yob, to be told "someone will phone you back to take a report!"
Report the neighbours for something, anything, miserable
ers.
Took the police three
days to ring me back when my garage was broken into recently, no one even bothered to come round. Probably all too busy checking numberplates so the automatic fines don't grind to a halt
Priorities. Wrong. Completely.

Hollywood, why do you think I hardly ever post in here. You can explain to people the reality of policing until you are blue in the face - they won't listen. This forum only really exists as an outlet for people to moan about the police these days.
Seriously, what *are* the realities of Policing ? This opinion (by the public) is becoming more and more common.
Is there some truth in it - not in terms of the efforts of the BiB but in terms of misguided priorities which are imposed on them ?

Are small number plates such a SAFETY issue ? Does owning one make you a dangerous driver? Does it effect the safety of your vehicle? Does it effect your insurance in the event of a claim?
Nope, just illegal.
Shame really. That barge board of a number plate on the back of a bike doesn't half spoil the looks........

We have a two storey work building and we where upstairs in the mess room 3 of us while the downstairs was getting overturned by a gang, I was sh**ting myself.
No truth bending I just used it as a comparison.
In that case, my apologies. It really was a piss poor response. If its any consolation, a 'suspects on' type call normally generates alot of interest as its a good opportunity to impart some summary justice on these idiots. The fact that no-one turned up would make me think that there really was nobody available. (Cue donut shop closing jokes etc).

the Police nowadays are only interested in fines, a Friend of a Friend of mine is still waiting for the Police to visit her over a sexual attack last November so don't hold your breath will you?
I take it you mean "the Police" as an organisation, rather than the individual officers?
A "friend of a friend", eh? Hmmmm...
