Midlands Today - Should the 30 limit be lowered?
Discussion
For information off Midland Today's website as discussed during their evening programme. The usual shallow journalistic/simplistic claptrap.
We're also holding special phone vote. The question we're asking is:
"Should the 30mph speed limit be lowered?"
If you think it should be call 09001 74 74 23.
If you don't think it should be lower then call 09001 74 74 24.
All calls cost just 10p and the result will be announced on Midlands Today on Friday 3rd March.

If I remember correctly, the 30mph limit was brought in early on in the 1900's to protect either the horses, or the man with the red flag(!).
Most modern cars can stop from 30mph in about 20ft!
How about leaving the limits (all of them!!!!) as they were, and teach the halfwits not to walk into the bloody road!?!?!
Just a thought......

I take it they mean lowering the actual default urban 30 limit as opposed to just asking for more 20 zones/limits.
Correct they are talking about altering the law so that the default for a road with a system of street lighting, i.e. a restricted road, would be subject to a 20 mph limit.
well with single lane NSL now 40 (stuck behind lorries) why not?
Its not as if we want to get anywhere or we are important to the economy?
No offense to truckers - you need to keep your licence more than most!
At least there are bits of the Motorway network were you can drive 'properly' - enjoy while you can
