I have seen 3 new type cameras in various locations. They are a completely yellow box about the size of a Gatso but are mounted directly on top of a 20 odd foot post. They are all still wrapped in protective film. Does anyone know what these are?

They might be the ones that measure your speed over a particular distance, they take your photo as you come in and as you go out and work out if you could have been speeding in between the two cameras.

Do a Google for Monitron. Is it one of those?

Yep that's the one. That's not good is it, they're digital.

Yeah. but they're all vulnerable to a plasma cutter

Plenty of these around the Bristol area. Recently the top 1/3rd of the post has been covered in anti-climb paint. Can't think why, as surely these "Life Saving" devices would never be subjected to vandalism!

Looks like you're less likely to win the 'throw the old tyre full of petrol' hoopla game with this model.

Good excuse to buy a paint-ball gun, though.

Always wondered how long it would take the authorities to work out you had sprayed the speed detector bit with a black paint aerosol so it wouldn't 'trigger' the camera?

Last time the one down the road from me got sprayed pink it took them about two weeks to fix it.
Took another two weeks to fix it after it was set on fire.

I've seen one of those at Long Eaton on a traffic light junction. Looks like a gatso to me but it's purpose isn't just to catch red light jumpers. It can also catch out speeders, I think. It got torched after a few weeks but several months later it's been fixed. I'm surprised that people don't attack the small 2.5ft upright tower box nearby all truvelo's (like that guy with the fire lighters)instead of messing about with the camera pole. But hey, who said vandals were bright

Does no one realise that these cameras have 230v running through them, just think next time you try destroying one, you have to be prety dumb not to see one any way!!!

The thousands of motorists who've been caught by these boxes would no doubt disagree

The thing to remember is they are combined speed and red light cameras. Will Road Angel bother to record them?

Good point, the power supply to the camera could be 'interrupted' more easily somewhere down the line. 230v won't kill you, its the current that hurts. Just wear rubber wellies and gloves

Only joking, I've never done anything like this.

Tiz a bad thing to do but the vandals poke in a couple of firelighters and walk away. Bad boys!
