Question: Whyd he change position half way through the persuit to pass within a couple of feet of trucks at circa 116mph?
Surely would have been better to stay in lane 3 and have the extra space of a width of lane?

Hiya d, hope all is well,
From what i can see, he moves into lane 2 ONLY when there's NOTHING in either lane 1 or 3. Although lane 3 is normally safest, he is giving himself TWO rather than one 'get out' options. If something unexpected should happen in lanes either side of him, he can go left or right if need be. I believe the reason he stays in lane 2 as he goes past the HGV's is because neither of them are threatening anything silly. There's no cars close to either of them threatening to pull out, and the second lorry is far enough back from the lead lorry not to have any intention to pull out for an overtake. I know the point your making delta, ie, the lorry might swerve for debris or a car on the hard shoulder which the driver has missed, etc. However, if that was me i would have planned for that, and after all, he knows that lane three is still clear should he need it. And anyway, he's only doing 116mph!!
Just my take on it, i'm sure others may think differently!

Looks like he pulls into lane 2 when there is a gently RH curve to road (and he is going 130) so visibility is opened up in lane two -- as well as Hollywood's double exit reason.
Watch as he goes past the lorries -- he is decidedly in the right side of lane two -- see how he drops back in after passing the second lorry.
The customer at the start makes the novice mistake of not looking all the time at traffic flow and turns his back after a quick glance to loiter before getting in his car. Would have been nice of plod to give him blue-light cover whilst he exited the hardshoulder, but they had faster fish to fry, clearly...

I am with HW on this one. Neither of the cars is going particular quick. The T5 is <120mph most of the time, little blast to 130mph.
Mind you he stops quickly from 100mph judging by the count down markers - wonder if the Fiesta almost caught him out.
Hi HW!
Just seemed a little odd for him to sit in the middle lane before the pull as there wasnt anything in lane 3 at all....just seemed to be the better option to me with plenty of room for a bail out in case of one of the trucks doing a silly move....
Dont have any problems with his speed though! (woulndt ya know it"

I had no problem with the speeds involved .... or his positioning. There is more to positioning than merely using lane 3 on a Motorway. Yes, stuff was in lane one but was it ever likely to move to lane two? Unlikely. By using lane two as well as three you can to some extent improve vision but also show yourself to other drivers via their mirrors. Staying in lane three will not potentially make you as visible as changing lanes and 'appearing' in someones mirrors a bit.
I do though think he definitely stopped a bit quicker than he had planned

I'm curious at what point he turned on the blues. I'd have been interested to follow the Fiesta for a while to see when he noticed that police car behind.
edited to add that it looks just a couple of seconds bfore the fiesta driver pulle left and braked heavily.

Just like a perfectly normal days driving in germany then! only someone gets to lose their licence for what?
As is clearly demonstrated speed is not a problem with the correct training
I guess speed ain't a problem when you have the advantage of blue and blinkies going, most mortals do not.

Yep weird that, I'd have thought that there was more danger of an accident to the bloke who'd been stopped on the hard shoulder than anyone else.

agreed
all that video shows is how safe it is to do nearly double the limit with a bit of skill.
What amazed me was how long the rat took to catch up with a Fiesta Si and also how slow the T5 was getting to 100mph.
As far as the lane 2 move, I agree that he was just giving himself better vision on the bend but he was probably looking for the Si at this point to try and get his provida start point.
I reckon the next part would have shown the driver of the Si pulling a warrant card out and making a few excuses and apologies. You would have to have some balls to just jump out like that and most people expect to sit in the car until directed otherwise.

Pulled over on the hard shoulder -- I wouldn't be sitting in the car any longer than I needed to be -- straight out onto the verge up the hill and invite the officer to join you away from Lane 1.
Life expectancies of 7 minutes on the hard shoulder (sheeesh! who comes up with this rubbish?) are bandied around by HATO-types. I'm not going to spend 7% of the rest of my life waiting for trafpol to get out of his car.
Lies damned lies...
