On the M6 north last sunday there was something I've not seen before on an overhead bridge. There was a white van parked off to the left of the bridge and what looked like 3 remote cameras on what can only be described as tripods, 1 over each lane...any ideas? I initially thought ANPR but I've never seen one like that before.

Recently saw the same off the bridge on Jn 1 M180. In that instance it was a traffic survey ... although I'd not rule out checking on vehicle tax either.

Definitely ANPR. I've seen a similar arrangement over the motorway feeding Blackpool on my way to a party conference.

I spotted the van plus 3 tripods on the bridge at the Standish junction last Friday (J27?) as I was travelling northbound.

Also spotted a couple of unmarked BiB cars on the same stretch of the M6 in the last week or so - a silver Merc estate and a silver Range Rover. Dibble, is this a recent change to M6 patrolling strategy by the Lancs BiB, or is this a coincidence?
