The newly-launched Serious and Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) is charged with HAMPERING CRIME. Doesn't this rank alongside that other BLiar (the Cozening Commissioner) and his 40 targets that make no mention of arresting criminals?

Valuable policing resources are being removed from the police forces (sorry, "services" and HMC&E to "hamper crime". Loads of our taxes are being poured into SOCA ... to "hamper crime". An old copper friend of mine used to "hamper crime" by lashing crooks on Salford Docks with the strap of his truncheon ... very effective and cheap!

Wolfie Smith's dictum springs to mind!

Streaky

[And I appreciate that SOCA is not constituted as a police force ... and that's why they will not swear an oath to the Queen - S]

Why do we need one of these - when whole point of merging the existing police forces to these mega tree destroying (please, someone, think of the trees ...) super duper hugest regional forces was supposed to equip police with the combined resources to deal with organised crime...

So... suggestion ... either one or the other..

Ist wasting our hard earned cash spending on the same thing..

Or ist admission that these huges forces will just be means to ensure Noo Labia control over the thinking rebels whilst at same time being useless at catching the real criminals ...

Have you not noticed how we copy the Americans at most things?
This is our own home grown FBI. SOCA officers will be Agents. That is why they are not a police force!

Every day now one wonders when one will see the order for a large quantity of black Chevy Suburbans going in.

Of course it could all be a rumour that during one visit over the pond, Tiny Blur and George Dubbya were sitting in the presidential convoy. Ahead and behind were Suburbans full of agents armed to the teeth. Secret Service detail were running alongside when George leaned over to Tiny and said "you know Tony, having all these agents definitely gives you a bigger willy!"

allegedly.......

BLiar already has a "bigger willy". It's called John Prescott.

On the other hand, a bigger willy, with Cherie's letter-box of a mouth?

It's just a re-badged, facelifted RCS and NCS surely? What were they tasked with previously? Oh, tackling serious and organised crime. Funny that.

I agree. Rebranding, reshuffling and spin. All at the taxpayer's cost.

Its not actually. Those that have gone over to SOCA have no powers as police officers and have resigned from the police service! They will have different powers to assist them, some of which will be derived from PACE and SOCAP. The whole shooting match appears to be designed to emulate the FBI from my personal observations.

RCS were just that. Dealing with the problems within their own region and not Nationally. The NCS was the move towards better integration and now has developed into SOCA.

Who's in charge of this SOCA?

Does he have a penchant for wearing ladies underwear in the same way as Hoover?

Its an intruiging mental image...

Is this the same bunch that presided over the dishonest shambles of "Operation Ore" ?

Thanks for filling in on some of the details MG but I just don't get it. Aprts from Scottish and Welsh variations, Police currently have jurisdiction nationally. The FBI was created to facilitate cross-state investigations. We don't strictly have that here.

Would it be the case that their powers will be very similar to that of a Police Officer in terms of Powers of stop, arrest and detention?

Can you link me to any documents that show their new powers as I'm interested to see if it's just spin.

What makes you think he's got anything more interesting to say in private ,,more like bugging the demoprats to see which one's drinking most.

Sounds like a better option, but I was just continuing the comparison by commenting on the rumour - if it was a rumour rather than fact - that the Head Fed bugged his President and the entire presidential coterie and probably every congressman as well

When I was young you could go down Downing St and stand outside that door. Now of course we're not allowed. Too dangerous for our glorious leaders to get close to the proles.

Nope. Not for nothing is the Media Centre at Lords referred to as the "Cherie Blair stand"
