How long do penalty points stay on your licence? WHen looking for insurance quotes, I see they ask for any in the last 5 years, so is that how long they are counted on your licence for?

How long they stay on the licence is dependent on the offence commited, but most are for four years from date of offence. (Some are from date of conviction). They drop off your licence after that but will still be on your record held at DVLA.

Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act convictions resulting in a fine (ie most speeding offences) are discloseable & not spent for 5 years.

SP30 and SP50, first in 8/2002, latter in 2/2004.

Not my licence, and no real reason for asking other than curiosity! I have been getting insurance quotes for dieselnut (he with the tarnished licence ) and we were just trying to remember how long it was they lasted for.

Four years from date of offence for those (unless they resulted in a disqualification in which case it's four years from date of conviction)

Of course it is having 12 in any 3 year period that results in a totting disqualification.

I thought they were spent after three years but had to remain on the licence for four?

Yup. Spent after 3 for totting up, off licence after 4, no longer disclosable for insurance after 5.
