Watch out I just saw that speed camera van somebody mentioned the other day. I have never before witnessed such a profitable application of a camera van (and bear in mind I live in Norfolk!)

I reckon it was clicking pretty much every car coming around that corner just now. There was panic braking, swerving, I would be very surprised if there wasn't an accident.

For those who don't know it, this road used to be a 70 IIRC with no central barrier but they put in a 50 limit because of the cross over accidents. Now they've installed armco so it'd be fine for a 70 and so people seem to trundle through at 60/70+ without a care in the world.

Now they station a camera van right on the exit of a left hand bend so if someone is "speeding" and brakes there's a reasonable chance of losing control. Throw in a few panic brakers and some lane changers startled by the camera and it's a recipe for disaster.

If there are any BiBs reading this concerned with this bit of road, you are going to see some serious accidents going down there if you keep up this scam, I'm disgusted about it.

Who the hell grants these imbeciles permission to do this kind of thing? Who are they accountable to????

What makes you think 99.9% of BiB have anything to do with or any control over mobile cameras ...... they don't !

I suggest you email Surrey Safety Camera Partnership and ask them if they think that just off a bend is the best place to site their camera van.

They seem to have a habit of locating their vans in clever places ..... they put one at Box Hill just off a bend parked in a cycle lane in the middle of the dual carraigeway - I found it after watching a car that had overtaken me slam on the brakes mid bend .... which I thought was a bit odd until I saw why ! Probably the same camera operator.

Is that something that'll zap a scamvan into orbit?

That bypass can be extremely useful and can agree it can easily and safely support speeds of 70+. Thanks for the warning.

This is a class example ‘bias on selection’ (as well as RTTM). The greatest contributor to the increased safety of that road will, without any doubt, be due to the Armco barrier. However, it is now a camera site. So which feature do you think will receive credit for the safety improvement?

“Accidents are down by xx% at this camera site” which is of course technically correct but it isn’t due to the camera enforcement……..

parasite partnerships are just that, partnerships with the police. until the police denounce the scp's real objectives, methods, incompetence and ineffectiveness they are just a culpable in the scam. indiviual bib may not like them but they work for an organisation that actively promotes them.

They were back on the a30 as well - 40mph limit, dual carriage way, dead straight ... central reservation but no barrier, then dual carraige way, then houses.

You can have your view but as I said ..... 99.9% of police have nothing to do with or any control over SCP's, etc ........

That will be this one www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=260314

On the day I wrote that message I was convinced I'd been zapped at ~70. However, I haven't had a NIP, so I must be in the clear.

Yes I remember reading your OP. In fact I was going at an artificially slow speed just on the off chance that they were collecting money from around that corner, so I must thank you for the tip. You've probably saved me from getting scammed.

That speed limit is so far short of the speed most people would select as safe for the road, it's bound to be a very profitable location.

Certainly seems wrong headed to throw panic braking into the exit of a corner where people would naturally be doing ~70mph.
