Hi

I got caught by a camera doing 38 in a 30 limit in Derbyshire, and I am jusy wondering how I go about finding out if Speed Awareness School is an option I can take.

Does anybody know how the option of going on one of these is decided?

Do only some areas give you the option? Do they offer the option or do you have ot ask for it?

Many thanks

Jon

You'll know when you get your ticket. It's usually offered for a first offence that's not too much above the limit.

I got offered it way back but at the thought of driving round all day with two bibs in the car criticising my every move I decided to take the points.

Staffordshire are doing it, don't know about Derbyshire. The course I went on wasn't too bad!

I wouldn't have thought you would spend any time in a car at all on one of those courses, i think it would be classroom based.

Staffs. course, first 1/2 day was classroom second 1/2 day was driving. Just normal learner BSM types though not bib. I particularly enjoyed the bit where the woman I was sharing an instructor with thought a road was one way, and it wasn't. Cue much hilarity when she moved to the right to turn right, met an oncomning car, stamped on the brake and shut her eyes

The offer is at the discretion of the Police, it isn't something they must offer.

(This will be changing slightly under the Road Safety Bill, as courts will have the power to offer it as a sentence which they don't currently have).

WRRRRRONNNGGGGGG!

Lancs had cut off at 35 mph. After some public outcry - und ist debatable as they still per some bloke in out local und some of Mad Doc's nursing staff invite at 34 mph.. - but very publicly they announce "arning letter at 10% plus two und Speed course to 10% plus 5 across whole range from 30 to 70 mph.

Per the Nurses this year at 35 mph (one) und the people who work at my place of work (34/35mph) - fee payable to "LanCASH££re County Council" und option offered by Prats. Staffs work with Lancs - same course.

Prices vary und standards vary. Lancs/Staffs ist like IAM workshop. TVP - offer same computer game as the Learners have. Kenneth Brannagh revealed all a couple of years ago in interview in a girly mag (Ok was "Elle" I like to be "with it und sassy"

That was silly.

Ist with ADI in Lancs und Staffs und I think also Northants.

The blokes at my place of work were done at silliest speeds of 34 mph by talivan (two) und one by Gatso on newly changed limit on urban dual.

All IAM members und all angered by manner of these pings.

They chose the course because firm I work for are a bit strict about points und use of the company cars. Ist a Swiss firm

However, what I will say ist this.

They enjoyed the course which focus on COAST skill only - und we provided proof of this on Paul's site

They reckoned a shame undermined by silly ping policy as it was worthwhile in content.

Due to robust public anger - Lancs became a bit less draconian overall und opened the course to wider audience at higher speeds. But still some flaws apparently - und ist a shame they still do this to fill bum on a seat.

That's still at their discretion though.
There is nothing to force Police to offer the courses & different forces employ different policies.

But really in interests of equity und fact we are all subject of the QUEEN und not Hair Tone und his Toned Up Contact Lens (anyone notice - it match his tie...ist really why the "red" eyes thing was "insult" in 1997 election ) - but if we are all supposedly subject to same laws - then all tolerances, cut offs und courses should be on offer to all.

It work that way in German und Swiss FEDERAL system. which ist more complex than Town Halls - but then they have to be better educated to be allowed to stand

Am loyal to homeland - nicht

do you still have to pay the £60 fine as well or pay for the course instead? as if so this just proves its just about revenue dont you think?

The reps in 2003 paid £85. Nurse recently paid £110.

No points.

They did receive copy of Highway Code, What If Video und a Hazard Aware computer game

Later on they receive glove compartment booklet on basic in-car safety, tyre pressure gauge und a high viz jacket.

Do not know if just Lancs/Staffs who do give a little something extra like this. Ist not much - but in some ways perhaps make them appear in a bit better PR light.

I am trying to be "fair".
