Following a car doing 55 on a NSL, half way round the bend they suddenly breaked down to 40. Why, a "safety camara". I turned around and followed another driver in the oppisite direction and guess what, the same happened, they jumped on the brakes half way round the bend.
I parked up nearby and watched almost every car, speeding or not slamming on the brakes.
I went to speak to the muppet, sorry, operator about his position and it went,
Me: Do you realise that parking here you are causing people to brake mid corner?
Him: Well they shouldn't be speeding
Me: But the ones I have followed weren't speeding
Him: Not my problem!
Me: Surely you are a "safety Camara" and should be positioned so as not to cause any danger
Him: Where should I park then? the end of a long straight so that people see me and slow down.
Me: But isn't that your job, to prevent rather than catch
Him: I am not getting into this, here is a contact number if you have a complaint
He then shut the van door
I rang the number, the guy took the details and half hour later, when Mrs topton past the site the muppet had crawled back into a hole and dissapeared.

Nice one.
Is this is the way to go? Once they have been warned that they are causing a hazard that could result in an accident, anyone who then has an accident there would be in a stronger position to sue the pants off them.
Perhaps we should all exercise our 'duty of care' and report dangerously positioned camera vans to the higher ups in the partnerships - making sure that you get the name of the person you speak to.
In these days of 'cover your arse' philosophy I can't see anyone wanting to stick their neck out.

Well done Topton!
His answer "well they shouldn't be speeding" just about sums up the shower of shite that they are! No understanding of the real world. No grasp that they are causing more danger than they could ever prevent.
I wonder how many accidents and near misses nation wide they contribute to every day?

Brilliant - just brilliant. I will definately remember this, although it would be hard to converse to these low-lifes, it seems it could be worth it. Give them enough grief and who knows ? A good idea might be to make sure he sees you taking pictures of his location, so if he's not following the SCP guidelines he might get a little more uneasy. That said, it seems the guidelines are "catch as many as you can, any way you can"
Well done Topton, full marks.

They really are morons aren't they? You can't reason with a moron, hell just ask yourself what sort of person would do that job. ...and if they have kids just amuse yourself with thought of the reaction in the school playground when it comes to
Q. "...what does your dad do..."
A. "...mine sits in a van all day pointing a camera at cars..."
Just been reminded when reading different thread, These muppets are supposed to "form an opinion of exsessive speed" before acting. This low life, when I approached the open door of his van, was reading a book and not looking at the screen or out of his spy hole. So it seems the camara was on auto pilot and scaming everyone.
Easy life to sit there just collecting money vouchers.

Very interesting, but does that mean he was just skiving? I mean, is there mobile equipment that will measure speed without needing an operator? I thought they had to point the gun at number plates?

I would guess it is automatic. The position of this van was no more than 150m from the bend. So he would not have time to form an oppinion and then film it.
Maybe he was skiving (doubt that though, no money made) The camara was definatly running, so I would assume he re-runs it every so often to sift out the CRIMINALS from the angels

Yep,
I believe that someone was convicted a couple of weeks ago using a mobile phone whilst driving, caught on a "Safety Camera". ON the plus side, at least this was a safety thing..
Not to mention the guy that done for undue care as he gave the scamera a two handed two finger salute....
Shame they can't detect people stoned or drunk....

Bigger shame that they can't just go away after being abolished in a surprise wave of common sense from officialdom. Good riddance to a waste of space. Roads would be safer, fewer safe drivers would be criminalised, and who - apart from our very own prolific poster maybe - would miss them?
