This is not a dig at the police but I find it a little bemusing.

I was out driving this evening and had to take my mother up to the local church so she could close it up for the night.

I came off the roundabout to see a police car parked up on the main road, blues on, and another on the ramp leading to the church car park.

I parked up and waited for my mother whilst watching what the police were doing.

It looked as if they were trying to fit some equipment - a white and black cylinder went onto the roof at the back of the car in the road and then they were fiddling about inside.

I managed to grab a picture on my phone...

Car 1 was the vehicle the equipment was being fitted to. Car 2, I assume was there to lend a hand, and car 3 turned up but the officer just looked to be observing.

Now, this is quite a busy road and wandering around a car with doors open etc, even at the side of the road, when there's a car park directly to the left of you, seems a bit....stupid.

Does anyone know what sort of equipment they were setting up in the car? (White cylindrical thing with black ends on the roof, and what looked like a small camera inside.) And why they were doing it in the main road and not the car park

It's a Nuclear Doughnut Maker ; because of the Plutonium core there is an exclusion zone, hence the other BiB keep the public away.

Or possibly they are to protect the Doughnuts against theft.

It is by the road because they need access to a fire hydrant to water cool the reactor.

I did not know they made Police cars with giant red numbers stuck on the roof.

Are these the special ones bought to help Brunstrom to learn to count ?

They're new vertical versions of the already present orange numbers stuck on the roofs

I think it may have been a 'Friday afternoon time to finish shift filling device'.

ANPR by the sound of it.

Perhaps from your description not the best place to try and fit it.

Nice checkerplate on the Landy, BTW!

Aah that would be logical as it was pointing fore and aft.

Mmm, I did wonder why they were using a main road, rather than the car park

Thank you Can't beat a fully checkerplated up Landy, sans bonnet plating - not a fan.

It would seem more sense to do the fitting off road, then get in a safe position at the roadside to use the equipment though.
