Earlier today my girlfriend was pulled over for doing 60 in a 50 zone in her S2000. Fair enough I said to her as she drew attention to herself by overtaking the police car at the time. The problem is that the police also had a good look at her car and booked her for having near slick rear tyres.

This came as a complete surprise to her as she had not really thought to check the tyres having only had the car MOTd a few months ago. To most of us this is obviously a basic error on her part and I am sure not one she will be making again. She was told that she will be getting 3 points for speeding and possibly a further 3 per tyre making a potential total of 9 points - oh and did I mention she already has 3 on her lisence for a previous minor indescretion. From her description of the turn of events it seems to me that she was treated quite harshly by the feds and given some blindingly inaccurate info from them and possibly some wrong paperwork. My question is does anyone know of a solicitor who specialises in Motoring Law who could stop them throwing the book at her, a job and car that she loves is possibly at stake. Any recommendations or advice would be much appreciated.

Not enough tread is inexusable really, but you're best asking in SP&L.

To most of us checking this kind of thing is part of the responsibility of having a car... sorry to be an arse but this is one of the things the police are supposed to be checking imo rather than dicking about with arbitrary speed limits. Hope she gets it sorted and still is able to drive though.

Regards,

Mark

As I always recommed for anyone caught speeding

www.pepipoo.com

not sure they'll be able to help much on the tyres though, this is the first time I've heard of anyone being done for this offence.

Well quite frankly if somone is daft enough to drive around in a powerfull rwd sports & not check the tyres for three months then IMHO they should'nt be driving it !.

Sorry but if I was a copper I'd have done the same, first day of summer rain your girlfriend/wife may well be upside down in a hedge or worse & it's those coppers who'll have to pick up the pieces quite literally. Just as well someone spotted it.

Might I suggest a quick trip to Halfords for a tyre care kit & 20 mins of time showing how to check stuff, if she still has a licence that is.

How can you not tell if your tyres are bald?

Mind you I followed a woman in a G-reg Escort today whose offside tyres were both practically flat, the car had a lean on it like the tower of Pisa, but she didn't seem to know or care.

I dunno, bald tyres and burning off a cop car, not much you can say in sympathy really is there?
