I have been working in Hemel hempstead and there is a twenty foot pole with an IR camera pointing at the traffic and a dot matrix display that flashes up your license plate as you drive passed it! No doubt it records them all aswell?

It actually looks like it just serves as a reminder to us that we are being monitored.

It appears to be in the grounds of a private company in an industrial area, anyone have any idea's what it is for?

I will try and get a piccie of it tomorrow if i remember..

For anyone that knows the area, the camera is roughly where the pointer is:

Ok,I asked around...

Apparently there is one of these camera's on all the main roads into the industrial area of Hemel Hempstead!

They are recording the plates of EVERYONE who goes into the area, for security

I'd forgotten about that. I think I'll go and drive past it in the Elise later, without a front 'plate

Take that, security!

seems ur entering the estate and some people have been known to commit crimes on them....

same for most service stations, stanstead certainly has such camera and suspect the rest might have.. got no problems with it, just would not want my journey between 2 cameras logged

Nah, I think the company in that building (the one just on the left after the roundabout?), makes those cameras or something. Don't think it's for security reasons at all.
