Tax Disc advice

Tax disc on my bike expires at the end of this month.
It is also due its MOT and a major service which I couldn't get booked in for until the 6th July.
Current MOT cert expires 22nd June. I know I can ride to my prearranged MOT appointment on 6 July on an expired MOT cert, I just don't know about the tax disc.
Can I buy a new one before the 22nd using the current but about to expire test cert or do I have to wait till I have my new MOT and hope not to get pulled on the drive to the garage. Bike will of course be off the road from 22nd.

As far as i am aware, you so long as your mot is current, you can purchase road tax....it does not matter if MOT is due to run out in a few days time so long as it is current at time of purchase....unless you are prepared to fill in a SWORN statement, it would seem sensible to purchase tax before your MOT expires.

your MOT and insurance has to be vaild for the FIRST day of the tax disc, not the day you buy it. so if the tax runs out the end of this month, and your mot expires before the end of the month then its a no go.
I had mine refused for exiring the same day

That's my experience too. I don't see how you can get round it in these circumstances, because if you fail to buy a new tax disk until your MOT is sorted you will be fined for not renewing your tax. Perhaps you could SORN for a few days?

Your best bet is to take the bike for an MOT now ahead of the service i.e. before the current one expires on 22nd. Then your problem is sorted. Anything being serviced on the bike which would prevent it passing an MOT now? Just find another bike MOT place that can do a test for you ASAP before 22nd. I use a place in SW London where you just turn up no appointment necessary.
One of the purposes of SORN is that at the end of a month DVLA on the first days after, can do a computer check to pull out all those vehicles that have not had their Licence renewed or a SORN notification within the past month. To the Reg Keeper of any such vehicle they send out a £80 penalty (reduced to 40 for quick payment).
So in your case S if you delay renewal until say 7days when MOT issued and do it within the month, even without SORN DVLA will not pull the vehicle out as Licence issued.
However, always best to take an insurance policy out (its free) by declaring SORN and one can then rest easily.
