Partnership hell.
Discussion
Partnership hell.
As the validity of cameras as a safety aid is cast into disrepute, it becomes increasingly obvious that besides the wasted lives, there are other social implications of the war-on-motorists.
Just how many people have lost a career, a home, a family, as result of punitive measures. Often punishment for harmless infractions of the law. Just how many people made to live in fear. How many broken homes, and people forced to turn to crime to pay for their mortgages, just so they could be "taxed" for speeding? The repercussions are horrendous. A few moments harmless fun on the road, and a lifetime of debt can follow. High insurance, possibly too high to afford may follow, leading to the temptation to go without. Thus a speeder becomes a criminal. Once in this mode, spiral down is easy.
Do we really think that the debatable number of people saved by the holy camera, justifies the millions of people being made to suffer financially? Consider roads that were previously high rated, but now downgraded to low speed. Why is it ok one day, but not ok the next? we know it's a farce. They know it's a farce, but worse than that - they are profiting from deliberately inflicting pain on other people. If it actually saved lives, it might justify the means, but it is costing lives. Costing lives to save lives.
When is it going to end?
Our duty. Making Camera Partnerships as anti-social as Drink Driving.

this is what you get from a labour govornment that they beleive they know what is best for you
*All* Governments believe they know what is best for you;
"To be GOVERNED is to be watched, inspected, spied upon, directed, law-driven, numbered, regulated, enrolled, indoctrinated, preached at, controlled, checked, estimated, valued, censured, commanded, by creatures who have neither the right nor the wisdom nor the virtue to do so. To be GOVERNED is to be at every operation, at every transaction noted, registered, counted, taxed, stamped, measured, numbered, assessed, licensed, authorized, admonished, prevented, forbidden, reformed, corrected, punished. It is, under pretext of public utility, and in the name of the general interest, to be place[d] under contribution, drilled, fleeced, exploited, monopolized, extorted from, squeezed, hoaxed, robbed; then, at the slightest resistance, the first word of complaint, to be repressed, fined, vilified, harassed, hunted down, abused, clubbed, disarmed, bound, choked, imprisoned, judged, condemned, shot, deported, sacrificed, sold, betrayed; and to crown all, mocked, ridiculed, derided, outraged, dishonored. That is government; that is its justice; that is its morality." (P.-J. Proudhon, General Idea of the Revolution in the Nineteenth Century, translated by John Beverly Robinson (London: Freedom Press, 1923), pp. 293-294.)

Not strictly true.
The idea of a labour party is that the state knows best and will control every facet of your very existence (a rather arrogant premise to start with). Thus, 1 in 4 people are employed by the state to keep tabs on the rest. This costs, and so taxes are raised to pay for those who "look after" us.
The Tory party in theory is one of self control. The state imposes a minimalistic approach to interfering with your lives, thus requires less people to "check up" on the citizens, imposes less red tape as we are that bit more able to look after ourselves, and thus is able (PFI mountain of debt shortly to be discovered when they stop cooking the books) to reduce taxes and red tap.
Lib dems ? I don't even know where to start. But J.S Mill they ain't.

If I can get a fag paper between the Tories and Labour at the next election, I will be most surprised.

Safe Speed says: "Let's make speed cameras as unacceptable as drink driving."
And the reason is that the loss of trend in the fatal accident rate is now worth over 1,200 lives per year, and we believe that the reason for the loss of trend is bad road safety policy founded on speed cameras. 1,200 lives per year is over double the annual death toll of drink-drive.

With devils advocate mode firmly on, you take that risk everytime you go out onto the road. A moments inattention combined with sheer bad luck at a nice legal 60mph could make a 12 month driving ban seem like a picnic.

True enough, and if it is a Spliff wrapper, that'll be the Lib Dems in too............
Oh, and in terms of Scameras, it is patently obvious to anyone on the roads these days that there are plenty of people who drive with little regard to their surroundings, swerve all over the place, fail to give way when they should, pull out at junctions when it is not safe to do so etc... and these tend to be the middle/older generation who no doubt Fully Believe that Speed Kills, without noticing their standard of driving.

The days of Thatcher's government will never be forgotten by engineers and other associated manufacturers in Scotland.
She was a merciless butcher who sucked the heart out of the country and left it bereft of real industry.

Sorry. My reply wasn't supposed to look aggressive. Feel free to use the phrase anytime!
In fact, I hereby donate all rights forever to the public domain. No fear Paul, I forgot to add a smiley. Is it me or is there a swelling of discontent about all of this?

And Tony has done exactly what for the country? - oh yeah, left it bereft of anything at all.
Given a choice between a woman of standing and action or a pathetic loser that drip bleeds the country dry while selling it down the river to the Euro idiots, I'd chose a hard leader who is at least prepared to stand up for the country.
