M56 Today, Police officer stood on motorway bridge, with camera on tripod..

.. only there was no car near him. He was on his own with no access from bridge onto motorway.

Now, was this a Talivan without the Van?

Or something else?

Why would he need access to motorway?

Mini-Gatso, photo of plate, fine in post just like a static one eyed bandit.

Possibly?

Yes I know it's a speed check thingy.

Just wondering how it works really, does the officer fire at the car then write down the reg if he is speeding or summit?

Well if he has a camera, I assume he has no need to write it down.....

In some cases they are spotters for marked cars further down the road. But in general, they're postal ticket machines.

They use similar equipment to the Tallivans, a laser gun connected to a continually active video recorder, so they don't even have to take a photo. They "form an opinion of excess speed", then just activate the laser and it adds a caption to the video feed with the target vehicle's speed (or at least that's how i've seen it done up here).

Presume this was in Cheshire?

I got done by exactly this setup (tripod mounted laser/camera) on the A500, M6 to Nantwich link. It was a summer evening and I was heading west into the setting (but still quite high in the sky) sun. He was standing on a bridge, with some trees behind him and wasn't wearing a hi-viz jacket, so he was all but invisible. I've seen them several times in the same place and they sometimes stand with the sky in the background and even wearing hi-viz jackets they're still almost invisible.

Well :scratcchin: they know most are looking for vans on bridges... Have seen these twice on bridges over M6 in the Lancaster/Preston stretch on M6. in last couple of weeks.
