Going through...:
france
luxembourg
germany and
belgium
...this weekend and need to know which countries will nick you for having an old skool laser radar detector thing. my mate has one and we need to know when it must be in the boot and when it can help us identify 'accident blackspots' ()....

(i am 98% sure you can't have them in france but not sure about the others...)

You can make that 100% and they can confiscate the car it is fitted to

Nope - no problem with GPS devices with camera locations on them, provided that they don't have a detector module. Many frogs use tomtoms too, so the cops are used to seeing them.

anecdotes suggest that in the boot is not fine. Leave it at home.

Article R.413-15 du code de la route refers to equipment "that has been used or could be used" and is installed in the vehicle.

Leave it at home

Its a No No on possession or use in all those countries mentioned except Germany which apparently allows possession but not use.
