Can the Police catch anyone on foot ?
Discussion
It's not fun trying to run in huge boots, nasty trousers, shirt and tie, stabby and bat-belt. It's the belt that really aggravates, I find. Neverthless, if you have to sprint (as I did for the first time in anger yesterday when some colleagues were in trouble) the adrenaline kicks in and you make the best of it.
There's quite an emphasis on being fit enough to do the job properly for us new recruits, I'm not sure if that carries on throughout peoples' careers, but I would hope so.
A mate of mine in the job recently had to run half a mile after a suspect - said it was exhausting!

Is it OK to chase suspects at all - should you not follow at a discrete distance lest the suspect trip and injure themselves? Or wait for the chase to risk assessed

You're right, in certain circumstances you shouldn't chase them.

Isn't it depressing when you try and take the piss only to find things really are like that...

Hardly going to suggest circumstances for people on here, but just like anything else a dynamic risk assessment has to be done & you are accountable for the choices you make.

What if you chased someone and as a result of giving chase they slipped over and hurt themselves?
As with any Police action the circumstances are going to matter, I'm saying no more.
Wouldn't it be easier if you were armed? (another topic I know) You could just say stop or I'll blow your ankles off.

That's probably what the crim's are doing. I would imagine bib are instructed not to give chase if they've had a water pistol waved at them.. too risky.

Dream on. Never heard of disproportionate response? Even *if* Bib were armed, it would no doubt be serious disciplinary offence to scare poor suspects like that.

A totally bollox cop out.
I truely hope all coppers do not mimic your attitude to catching criminals.
