After 15 years with a clean licence I've joined the ranks of the criminal fraternity having been caught fair and square by West Yorkshire's finest.

Does anyone know what Code 83 means? I've just been on the phone to my insurers and they only deal in SP30/50 type offence codes.(no extra charge though, which was a pleasant suprise)

Also, my other half was nabbed recently, and as a named driver on my policy I presume I have to tell them about her indescretion as well?

Cheers
Dave

As far as aware - they have prefixes..

AC = Accident Offences
BA = something to do with being disqualified
CD = Careless Driving
CU = Construction /Use = dodgy parts
DD = dangerous driving
DR = Drink/Drugs
IN = Insurance
LC = Licence Offence
MS = Miscellaneous
MW = M/way offence
PC= Pedestrain crossing offence
SP= SPeeding
TS = Traffic signs und RED LIGHT offences
TT = Tot Up Ban
UT = Unauthorised use = joyriding which appear on the dummy licence as most of these are not licenced ..

Do not know what 83 means - there should be a suffix. IG provided me with this list as he thought it would be "educational to me"

The full list is at www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/endorsem.htm#7.%20Endorsement%20Offence%20Codes

However can't see any '83' there.

The 83 will be for the local police, wait til your licence comes back endorsed with the SP code.

What did you do to get the code 83?

As r5 says - the 83 is internal code for the force, not your endorsement code.

Thanks chaps,
I shall await the return of my now soiled licence with baited breath.

Offence was 91mph on the M62, lasered from a marked car behind a bridge abutment.

PCN Code 83 : Parked in a Pay and Display car park without displaying a valid pay and display ticket?????

But surely not because that is non endorseable.

You surely must have some idea why you were booked?

He appears to have been caught without the aid of SPECS in more ways than one. Sorry DJF, commiserations as usual.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

If its a local code it should have 2 letters before it. Ive looked through my sheet and dont have anything endorsable with an 83 but i do have a TS83 which is contravene a 1 way order ( non endorsable though)

Edited to add: I suspect each force may have its own local codes so this may differ to the force area you were caught.

It depends on the force issuing your Fixed Penalty Notice. Due to the unique way the police services in this country operate they no doubt all have different codes for the various offences. I would imagine that in your case it refers to excess speed....

From the ADI Hand book (we chat to those teaching our kittens und ask nosiest of questions...about their own training und demand a full report regarding the kittens. )

We have

SP10 - excceeding goods vehicle limits
SP20 - Exceeding speed limit for type of vehicle (excluding goods/passneger vehicles)
SP30 - exceeding statutory limit on a public road
SP40 - Exceeding passenger vehicle speed limit on public road
SP50 - Exceeding seed limit on a motorway
SP60 - undefined speed limit

This last one got Steviebabes into hot water a bit back per the local Gazette as he endorsed all licences on A66 with SP60

The type of endorsement apparently affects insurance - so as well to check these idiots got the code right. Contention was in Cumbria was that if they could not endorse with correct code - how could one be sure the speed recorded was correct in the first place
