the spate of 50's television - makes you think!
Discussion
There's been - well - at least 2 programs on telly where they take 'young adults' and children and have them experience what it was like in the 50's.
The army version is currently on, and apart from the ones who want to leave (who they can't do anything about cos of the contractual agreements) it really does seem to turn these little toe rags round.
A bit of army disciplice, and absolutely no tollerance of bad behaviour.
makes me think anyway!

The army one, not very 50's, I cant see some raw recruit acting up like that and not taking a beating at some point.
But I agree does turn the around based on last years programm, be interesting what they are like 2-3 years on.
as someone who had a bit of a discpline problem in school, joined up, it was the best thing I did, bring back conscription.
those that dont have either further education or apprentiship/ job lined up get to do 1-2 year conscription.

I wonder what effect that will have on the unemployment rate and the amount of habitual dole receivers that are under 25!
under the current scheme of things, if you are on the dole and no sign of a job after 9-12 months, pay them a little more and put them to work chain gang style(maybe not the chains though
), and have them doing community jobs under someones watchful eye, then "no work - no money" and feel free to get another job they prefer !

If I remember the army one didn't one of the guys get CP'd for refusing to soldier, then end up being made a squad leader because he basically wouldn't quit and gave the colour sgt as good as he was giving?
It does make you wonder if spending a night in the cells or being punted off to a boot camp for a few months would do the little wannabe hard cases some good as when discipline is forced on them they seem to knuckle down, drop the 'harder than thou' attitude and
actually become reasonably decent people to boot.

Country still has criminals.. und they know how to use guns und so on as well ...
Overall - crime stats are no different to elsewhere if one ist brutally blunt.

I've always thought it would be good to get the chavs and gangs out of the city, stick them at the top of scafell, let them walk around with no noise, no distractions, let them think about life for probably the first time ever.
Then say, right, think you're hard? Nearest food is 20 miles away, get walking.

Good thinking, but rather than inflict them on Lakeland could you find a rough and remote part of Scotland instead. Sorry Paul.
Best wishes all,
Dave.

Have better idea.... Matterhorn.
Eiger .... North face .. sheer drop to oblivion
Everest? Too many "tourists"... und K9 .. also too many tourists...
But those Swiss mountains? Hard.. real hard .. und claimed lives of better men than these could ever hope to become.
But to maroon them there.. would make men of those who survive

It's actually quite a good programme, but they haven't chosen real scrotes on purpose, because they know that it would never work. They've basically chosen numpties, like the idiot whose 'crime' was to stay in a hotel all weekend using a stolen card. They're very small-time idiots who would run like a cheetah from any sort of real criminal. I suppose that's perhaps why they're doing it though, because they are the ones who still can be turned-around....
However, even trying to suggest that they are going through REAL Airborne training is an absolute joke. Not one of them would ever pass the real P Company!!!!

You don't have to go that far Wildy.
