A nice policeman was kind enough to take a photo of me driving my car at 37mph and wishes me to pay him for the privelage. The camera was a hidden mobile one, presumably a van.
I have admitted to be the driver. I heard there are ways to obtain these photos for free on account that I did not know he was there and that he asked me to pay before I see the photo. Is this true????

Slightly ambiguous title of this thread, I thought it referred to an encouragement, not a penalty.

That would be "speeding, fine."

Pistonheads. Punctuation matters

A friend of mine got flashed a while ago by a fixed camera, and turned up later with the fine slip and two pictures... I thought they'd send them straight away, but it must be easy to get them... Little anecdote, my friend was stopping very shortly after, and you can see a group of us waiting for him to turn up on the pictures...

I`m currently in the middle of an arguement with a scamera pratnership over photos (4 letters each so far). I got a NiP for 48 in a 40 in the truck, so I have asked for pictures. Their initial reply was that it only showed the back of the truck and not the driver so it would not help. My answer was that I wanted to see the pic as the VRN on the back is detachable and could therefore be any vehicle. There are other markings on the trailer which will help me identify it.

if this is a GATSO pic, towman, stick to your guns to check the speed against the markings. GATSO radar is notorious for overeading from vibration movement of the rear panel adding to the speed of the vehicle.

You could attend at court and say that the prosecution hadn't supplied you with the full video, 7 days before trial. Then at court you could ask for the matter to be struck out. My understanding is that they are obliged to disclose the evidence beforehand. The whole video would be one exhibit and you are entitled to see it in it's entirety. They won't like that!

I wouldn't ask for it before the hearing.

Respond to the NIP and ask to see the photo's to help you comply with your obligations under S172(2)a. They may send them, they may not. If they don't you could try pointing out that under S172(2)b - anybody and that includes the SCP has to provide any information they have as to the identity of the driver if requested by the CC.

Technically they don't have to provide to the photos to you. In the case you would have to let it go to court and then they have to release them FOC at least 7 days before the trial all it will be case dismissed. Even then they may not provide them as they may claim they do not form part of the evidence aganist you - if this is the case then great as a) they can not identify you and b) it supports further your defence under S172(3).

Also, if it was a mobile van, the offence would be have been on video - the photos are stills. You should ask for the complete video tape from start to finish and not just stills or even the little bit of your alleged vehicle on it.

Is the apostrophe denoting ownership or identifying a missing letter?

It's a truncation of speeding is fine. As indeed it is.
