On my normal journey to work this morning along the A325 north towards Bordon
Slowed for the 30mph limit before Whitehill as it is a favourite with the camera man
(30mph limit was extended a good way south out into the country precisely for this reason - well I can think of no other)
Crawlled through Whitehill at 30mph (used to be 40mph - still haven't a clue why it was lowered) and waited till the 40mph the other side.
However, didn't recall seeing the 40mph sign.
Followed the other traffic though Bordon, concerned that maybe they had lowered the limit.
Other traffic seemed to think that 40mph was the limit
Going out of Bordon I glanced in the mirror to see a 30mph roundel.
What the hell are they thinking, such a limit (and others) only brings disrespect to all sensible limits.
Those who use the road will most likely agree.
I will dive off into the residential area from now on as they are a mix of 30 and 40 limits.

They did the same on my commute recently. It was a perfectly safe/reasonable (IMHO but haven't checked stats) 40 zone, first they added a camera and then one day with no warning took down the 40 signs and repeaters. No sign to say, people were simply expected to notice the lack of signage and revert to 30 due to the street lights.

Safety, my arse

This is not the only one mechsympathy. The majority of my 30mile route has seen its share of speed reduction and in most cases it is routinuely ignored by the majority of road users. I therefore question how effective this policy can be. Asides from the obvious revenue raising that is.

Lower the limit - increase the revenue.
