I had to go round a long list of parked cars this morning on to the ther side of the road where there is a permanent Gatso catching speeders going in the opposite direction - and it went off (obviously I was going towards it). Has anybody else been caught like this and have I been caught speeding? Are the calibrated for uni-direction?

Cheers

First question is were you breaking the speed limit? If so you may well be caught.

As far as im aware it is illegal to flash on coming traffic, therefore you should not be endorsed with penalty points on your licence.

I believe it comes under a certain sector of the road traffic act.

No need to worry.

By what?

A Truvelo or a Gatso?

If its a Gatso then the words "Safety camera my arse" comes to mind. How is there any safety in giving 2 bright flashes in someones face?!

If it was a grey box, wider than it is tall with a bright white flash then its a GATSO and you should have got away with it.

However, if it was a blue box taller than it is wide that flashed a dull red colour then that was a Truvelo and you are probably nicked.

The gatso scamera in our area nearly always goes off when i go blatting towards it.
Id have thought that 2 nice bright flashes in the face at night would have been just what the "safety scamera partnership" ordered.

Incidentally, did anyone see the Gatso photo of Princess Di's driver Heri Paul, as they went thru the tunnel he got flashed in the face....then a crash occured.
Shortly thereafter the gatso was removed, and they blamed the driver.
Never learn do they?

Take your point, but he was way over the drink drive limit, and way over the speed limit as well, so a combination of factors.

On a road I used to drive a lot I would speed up on the approach to a gatso facing me to make it flash and hopefully use up film.

Hi fellas......sorry to change the subject a bit, but I think I got scamera'd last monday....does anyone know what the time limit is for them to post you the NIP?? Or is there no time limit?? I remember someone on here saying that they have to notify you within ten days of the offense....but that sounds unlikely to me!
Cheers, J.

You should be safe going towards a gatso!.

Now thsi is why I quoted Deltaf

I have always thought this was a oportunity missed for road safety. I'm not talking about the reasons why the crash occured I'm talking about the aftermath of the crash.

The only person to survive was the only person wearing a seatbelt. Not only that but he was right at the point of impact so had the worst chance of suviving.

It appears from the pictures I've seen that the rear safty cell was completely in tact so the people in teh back had teh best chance of suvival.
Were there injuries caused by moving around inside the car?

Everyone knew of Princes Diana How many more people would be alive today If they had put this accros and more people started wearing seatbelts.

I'll be honest I have no idea which is which.
Large yellow box that came very close to being a
ex yallow large box flashed twice in my face.

Wonder if they could read my lips on the second flash?

Where on earth did you get this idea from?
Truvello cameras flash traffic approaching them. They are designed to work that way. They are not illegal.

Truvellos can work in either direction eg forward or rear facing.

I would assume they had tested the severity of the flash to make sure it wasnt hazardous.

Truvello's use a higher spectrum of the visible light band and does not flash as brightly so would not distract the driver as much.

However Im sure if I stood at the side of a road with a very bright flash and flashed it in peoples faces in the dark while they were driving I would get prosecuted relativly soon as it is very very dangerous....

14 days. But they are allowed some slack if they have difficulty establishing the vehicle's owner.

There are some good websites that give chapter and verse on this. Do a search on 'Speed Trap'.
