Hi all,

Was driving along the A3 yesterday from M25 to Guildford around lunchtime. And I noticed what seemed to be camera van on a bridge about a mile before the Burpham junction. I was travelling around 85ish indicated but did see it about 1/2 mile beforehand and braked accordingly.

But after having a quick look as I went past, the van just seemed to have "Police" written on it and nothing to do with the camera partnership. If I was deemed to have been speeding, would I have been pulled over straight away or is it now a 2 week wait? Having looked on the surrey camera partnership website, they don't show that bit on the map as beeing a camera site.

Thanks in advance.

Might just be an ANPR site, they're quite common. They don't measure your speed. I hope your documents were up to date!

Did it look like this?

ANPR is (typically) operated from big vans like these.

ANPR is common on that location. Probably the Send bridge.

ANPR can also look like a few of these:

although they will be connected to a nearby van (not necessarily in sight)

Could've been but then the side door was open. And the van was right over the side - as in nearly hiding behind bushes (instead of straight above the lanes), but could still see the carriageway.

Surrey's mobile speed camera vans spend alot of time away from their stipulated locations for them ! They say 10% of time is away from the published locations but I have rather big doubts about their honesty in this respect.

My wife got a ticket on the A3 just after the 50 mph limit and speed camera northbound prior to Hook. The mobile van was sitting under a bridge wedged up on the hard shoulder on a bend waiting for people who have speeded up after the camera..... that is certainly not one of their mobile camera locations ..... and neither is sitting in the middle of the Mickleham bends at Boxhill causing people in front of me to brake mid bend hardly safe !

If the van you saw was on a bridge side on with a door / window open in the side and not with 3 cameras out one for each lane (probably ANPR) then I think you may have to sweat for 2 weeks .... having said that I think Surrey's mobile vans are clearly marked as camera vans - it's just where they often sit they may as well be hiding in a bush !

I guess they've figured the way to maximise revenue is to say where their vans will be and then place them somewhere else.

Ooh. Nasty.

It's possible that I like speeding up through there...

Damn. Well it looks like it'll be a nice 2 week wait then

Forgot to say that I saw the van just as I came over the top of the small incline by the services. Is that still far enough for them to get me?

Definately an ANPR. I live in Burpham and went over this bridge on Sunday. Loaded my pants up as I was coming onto the bridge a smidge over the speed limit, unit I saw the number plate recorgnition signs, (which would be illegible from the A3). My wife also saw it on Monday when driving down the A3.

Don't worry too much. Lets hope they got some of the tax dodging, insurance avoiding scrotes.

Side door job is normaly NOT ANPR but the real McCoy Scamera brigade. Also ANPR do not try to hide.

ANPR is normally very obvious.

Wait 15 days and see if nasty letter drops on doormat.

OK well i'll just have to wait and see then. Have just noticed that that place conveniently appears as a mobile scamming spot on speedcameramap.co.uk (don't know exactly how accurate/up to date that site is).

Just makes me pissed off that these losers (if it's a scamera van) don't do anything about genuine boy racers who do like 40+ down narrow residential roads in the town centre and yet love raking the cash in on straight, safe dual carriageways where its safe to speed.

One or two boy racers will not pay off the government debt.

A straight motorway/dual carriageway will get more revenue!

The problem is current laws only have any impact on those that contribute to society.

If you or I get a ticket or get banned we're in trouble because we have jobs that require us to drive, and have an income that means we must pay the fines, and have houses to pay for. But Kevin in his Nova doesn't have a licence anyway, doesn't have a job to loose, doesn't pay for his own house, and won't end up paying any fines because they're means tested against his benefit income (which we pay for).

Yeah right, because all such scrotes have the cars they illegally use registered in their own name!

Biggest load of crap ever ANPR unless backed up with patrols to pull immendiately!
