In town centre of Aberdeen, I became momentarily confused, I wanted to go straight on and the bus infront of me did, it was only after I crossed the junction I reaslised I shouldn't've followed it as the road was "One way except for buses" Couldn't really turn round so just went on for the short distance of the road.
It was my fault for being to close to the rear of the bus to see the signs.

If there was CCTV (Probably) can I be charged / convicted & what sort of penalty would I get?

Theres a lot of cameras for this sort of thing in Edinburgh, but don't know about Aberdeen.

Could possible receive a notice in the post (again, not sure of the system in Scotland). Did the same myself in Leeds a while back - but heard nothing.

Was back there this morning (travelling the other direction), I was definately in the "wrong" if the big red no entry signs are to be believed. And there is a cctv camera although it's not fixed and may have been looking the other way.
Anyone know if there is a time limit for any charge of this sort to be brought & what said charge could be?

Thanks

It's Failing to Conform to a traffic Sign, but I'd not be too worried about it. To get busted you'd need someone to make a complaint, and to know the CCTV camera was there, and to source the tape (assuming it hasn't been wiped), and for the plod and CPS to deem it to be in the public interest to prosecute. Given all the variables, I think it's unlikely.

The only problem is if it's in an area where a lot of traffic would be tempted to "accidentally" miss the sign to avoid queues, etc., in which case they may be wise to it.

There some Bus Lane cmeras in Aberdeen, but I don't know about "No Entry" cameras. I suspect there aren't any of these though, so hopefully you'll be Ok.

I made similar mistake in Oxford a while back.
Got confused with all the different lanes, and just followed the cars in front of me. I then realised that I was surrounded by shiny buses, and thought to myself, something is wrong here!
I was in a bus lane but did not get any fine or summons, so that was a relief!

Yes, I've done this before as well. When there are so many signs at the same junction and you're not familiar with the road it can sometimes all get too much. It would be harsh to prosecute for this, but with prosecutions now coming via CCTV images you can't be sure I guess.
