...there's a single camera on the A34 southbound not long after you get onto it from the M40. Kinda looks like a one end of a miniature SPECS camera set.
Anyone got any ideas what it is? APNR maybe?

No - it's neither a gatso nor a traffic light camera style unit - it actually looks like a minature SPECS camera and has couple of gold fronted round "units" beside it.
