Now when I was a lad (many moons ago!) If you had an accident, however small or large, the Old Bill turned up, and someone got blamed for it, resulting in an endorsement and a donation to the government coffers. 3 endorsments and you were out! 6 month ban, loads of hike up on your insurance as well.
Now-a-days, unless there's either injuries, or a "dispute" between the drivers, the Old Bill won't even turn up, so theoretically, a driver could go round bumping into cars all day long, and as long as they can pay the insurance (if you have any) it's no problem! they still have a clean licence, able to cause mayhem wherever they go! we all see these drivers every day don't we?
Now go 4 mph over the speed limit, and the whole force of the law drops onto you!
Something wrong somewhere!!!!!!!

The way i understand it if you have an accident and you, the driver are the only injured person you are not obliged to inform the BiB, but if anyone else is injured you must tell the BiB.

So if some smart arse bumps your car whilst driving like an pillock, pretend you are injured and call the cops oh and the ambulance of course, then keep your fingers crossed they throw the book at him.

There was an accident on my way to work today. Turners Hill Road between the Maize maze and Tullys Far where there are some sweeoing bends. Girl in a fiesta managed to throw the car off the road into the bushes, and it is a firly common place for this to happen.

However after she was out the car and all OK, she said "I wasn't speeding just driving along" and of course she wasn;t speeding. Just failed to take into account the fact it had rained overnight, and for the first time for ages so the road was slippery. So whilst she wasn't speeding she was driving too fast for the conditions. Hopefully someone will have pointed out to her the problem, I couldn;t was too busy directing traffic!

The other amusing thing was that the Police did attend (3 cars which for one car in bushes no injuries seemed incredible) and they went round checking tread depth on tyres etc. I don;t know if they were at or below legal limt or not, but the woman in front of me who also stopped expressed surprise the Police checked tread depth and said she wouldn;t know if her tread was legal or not.

All this proves is we need driver training!

They won't throw the book at them unless it's warranted, it just wastes NHS & Police human resources making spurious personal injury claims.

(Also leads to higher injury collision stats & you know what the answer to that will be)

The point i was trying to make in my usual ham-fisted way was that if you think the other driver was lets say driving dangerously and you phone the BiB to get them to deal with it they are likely to ask if anyone is injured, if not, "we are to busy"......"we can`t just go around arresting/charging people with motoring offences on your say so Mr SS".

Three times i got that when i reported a drunk(allegedly)driver.

Bin there bought the tee shirt.

And the point I was making that you alleging that you are injured (when you are not) will mean that whatever action they would/wouldn't have taken against the other driver isn't likely to change much. What is more likely to happen is that a Police officer will be going through a form filling exercise for a spurious injury collision, instead of out catching dangerous drivers or dealing with other matters.

The government will also see an increase in injury collision stats & on current form what we can expect as a result is lower limits/more cameras etc.

In answer to the first point, what are the chances of BiB turning out to a small bump where maybe the miscreant has no licence/insurance/TWOC, if i thought this person was giving me the run-around i`d phone for an ambulance and say i had a sore neck, the chances are if we exchanged names his would be worth the paper its written on.

So your advice to a novice driver is "don`t do it" because if you do, your second point comes into play.

My advice would be "do it" get the BiB to get this rogue driver off the road, next week he might kill somebody.

I once had a car ram me from behind, both vehicles could`nt be driven, i got out just in time to see the driver and his mate legging it up the road, luckily or unluckily which ever way you look at it a third person was in the back with a head like a potato.
Just as a side issue a black guy in a white Jaguar stopped to help him, he was a singer in the group The Q Tips (Paul Youngs band).

They caught the driver because Potato head told them his name.

I don`t know why i mentioned that, oh yes, but for the guy in the back being injured we would have exchanged names then i would have lost my no claims(you did`nt have no claims protection in them days)because it turned out to be a stolen car.

If the Police & an ambulance had to attend every minor bump on the roads because people were alleging falsely that they had been injured, neither would have the time or resources to do anything else.

If you are genuinely injured call them. If someone fails to stop call them. If you can explain to them why you think someone is unlicensed/uninsured call them.
Don't cry wolf though, because if others do as you do, when you or they have a genuine emergency they are even less likely to be able to come to your assistance, because they'll be snowed under with spurious injury RTC reports.

Hear all about it! Hear all about it! Person has accident in not speeding shocker!! That must mean that the speed limit there is too high of course nuts

It's interesting to see that we are beginning to observe the results of the pure focus on speed and associated propoganda campaign. If you kick drivers brains out (metaphorically speaking of course, although Labour might prefer the literal interpretation ranting) this is the kind of thing that ends up happening.

That lady has listened to all the government misinformation and come to the conclusion that her speed and attention to driving is no longer her responsibility. FFS!!
