Apparantly there is a new law coming in with regards to child restraints and we now need one
even if the child is over the normal 0-3 years when kids used to use seatbelts.
Question for boys in blue - these things are unsightly (yes they perform a vital function and yes the safety is important). I know there was a thread posted but it seemed to get hijacked over the same point of safety over appearance.
Would racing harnesses still be unsuitable for kids, rather than the standard adult seatbelt. They are adjustable and give a better level of protection than standard seatbelt and a badly fitted child restraint.
I'm thinking of aquiring a new car with harnesses so would be interested in the response.
Many thanks for a reply

While we are on kiddie sets
In a landrover defender there is a seat for midgets in the front between the driver and passenger
It has a lapbelt so what do the BiB say to putting a 5year old in that seat
i ask as a friend is coming to visit and she has a sprog of that age.

I have also seen the other thread about this and I really wonder why people are worried about the car seat being unsightly. After all who actually sees it, and I can't imagine people look at a car and think "Cor look at that unsightly car seat".
What more irritates me about the car seat is the amount of space it takes up, and how difficult they are to fit. Everyone believes them to be simple, but then of course you get the random checks and find a huge percentage are fitted incorrectly.
So perhaps they would do better making the things easy to fit!

Aye, they are a bugger to fit, so we've bought one for each of our cars, a more expensive one for the missus' car that reclines, and a cheaper one for mine, as it's the missus' car that the baby will be in most of the time, and for long journeys.
Mothercare do some very good value ones.

Yet another amendment Reg just published by HMG and coming into force on 18.9 regarding nippers in front seats this time.

Go to the explanatory Note at end to try and get sense.
Why they just don't scrap the lot and condense into one so we could all understand beats me. It needs a day and half to go through all to understand.
