I've noticed gantries being erected between jct 7 and 8 by Stevenage, does anyone know what they are gonna be? They are blue inverted L shaped with a kinda fancy bit of bracing

Ah, can't be making enough money elsewhere then.. Unless there are roadworks abouts to start.

Ah that makes complete sense, the only bottleneck on my journey sarf every day, how pointless. If they just widened that bit of road everyone could rack it up a bit and the Herts SCP would make a bundle

"Blue L with fancy bracing"

Definitely SPECS by the sound of it. Shame. As fas as slowing down traffic goes these ARE excellent, but only if people realise that they are average speed and that slamming on the brakes every time you see one is pointless!

SPECS are also excellent at making people throw correct lane discipline out the window! A particular dislike is the 'Staggered Numpty Syndrome' with 2 (or 3) cars across the lanes all doing 35mph forming a rolling roadblock with corresponding bunch of traffic behind!

I noticed these going in the other evening - 3 things occured to me

1) they are having a flippin' laugh, you are lucky to be moving in the mornings let alone speeding

2) we are in for a shedload of roadworks - see 1)above

3) they have decided it goes so slowly in the winter they may as well have lamposts and tarts to brighten up the journey home

Rather bizzarely, those junctions are listed as having completed roadworks...

Is there not a possibility that they're flow monitoring cameras being installed to help the County Council get the funds for the desperately needed widening scheme that has been promised for the last 20 years?

Maybe, they are in pairs seperated by about 1km and both north and south. They only overhang the hard shoulder at the moment so who knows?

For the avoidance of any doubt, that's what a SPECS set-up looks like.

Single arm version..

Its good to some of us are not so cynical and still believe they put up cameras for GOOD reasons. Unfortunately, from the sound of the description they are definitely specs there to rob us.
