points mean prizes

where do you lot stand on the 'points' scenario?
ie: caught speeding...fair cop, no harm done, 60 squid and 3 points?
or is it speeding...fair cop,no harm done, 60 squid and a grand extra next time you try to re-insure?
hmmmmmmmmm, no wonder that £30 of each of our premiums contributes to non-insured drivers fcukups...... (mid-day news on radio 1 today !!!!)

Not no much a fair cop, it just comes down to psychology and economics. Just think of the insurance companies point of view, advertising *that* £30 motivates us to ostracise those without insurance. We will be much more annoyed that our premiums have an extra £30 despite the fact there is nothing we can do about it.
What they wont advertise that this £30 on average which is added to our premiums due to uninsured drivers is smaller than the average amount added to premiums due to more and more people getting points on their licence than ever before and thus suddenly we are all more 'risky'. I think not.
Similarly, think of the financial forces behind the £60 fine. It has been the same for as long as I can remember, at least ten years I should think. Inflation has risen year on year and council tax has risen a lot more than that. Surely this would be a licence to print money for the puniative fine? Not in this case though... As it gets psychologically closer to the £100 mark this would mean that the number of people who would be bothered to fight cases where they knew they were innocent, or indeed want the CPS to prove its case would increase exponentially and then logjam the court system.

You are going to get £100 FPNs under the new Road Safety bill (& there will be 6 points with them not 3.)

Do you think the bill is likely to be passed?
Also, from your experience do you think many more people will want to fight cases?
