A police officer parked his private car with two wheels on the pavement outside his home in Upminster, Essex and was issued a ticket by a warden.

The oficer - at the time in civies - remonstrated with the warden and then dashed inside and changed into his uniform. Calling for backup, he arrested the warden on suspicion of using threatening and abusive behaviour.

Now, some would applaud because they don't like traffic wardens. Others would suggest an abuse of power by the police officer.

Hmm! - Streaky

It's in today's Telegraph as well, with details. The Warden works for LB Havering.

Why does he need to be in uniform to arrest?

Probably to give the illusion that he was on duty at the time, and therefore immune for TW's adavnces.

Was the officer testing the capabilities of the vehicle's suspension at the time of the offence?

Dear god, if that was any of my colleagues I would take them into the locker room and educate them most vigorously.

Sounds like the classic neighbour domestic there DVD. I remember arresting someone for damaging a gnome. The woman was ranting about beong arrested in her own home. The Custody Sergeant had me in stitches as he tutted..."Arrested in your own home, for damaging a gnome..." the silly rhyming was lost on her. Happy days!
MOTORISTS in Camden were slapped with nearly 500,000 parking tickets last year.

Figures released this week show that 448,000 parking tickets were issued in the borough - an incredible average of 1,230 every day of the year. Only parking attendants in Westminster handed out more with a staggering 715,000.

There were a further 100,000 tickets issued in Camden for moving traffic offences - more than anywhere else in London.

Hotspots included the bus lane at Haverstock Hill, Hampstead, where 10,845 people were caught on camera and subsequently fined.

Nick Mavrides, co-director of London Motorists Action Group, said he was not surprised at the scale of the fines issued.

"It's been a battle between the giants of Westminster and Camden, with Camden coming in a close second.

"They should be ashamed of themselves making such vast sums fining reasonable people the amount of money it costs to put food on a table for a week."

He added that he believed Camden's Labour council lost the last election because of its strict parking policies and that the LMAG would be monitoring the new administration.

Camden's new Lib Dem and Tory coalition is to scrap routinely clamping illegally parked motorists from next Thursday.

Mr Mavrides, who runs Ace Sports in Kentish Town, said: "We need to work closely with the new administration to make sure they don't fall into the same trap.

"We need to let them get their feet under the table but we will be keeping a close eye on them."

A spokeswoman for Camden Council said it had issued fewer parking tickets than last year's total of 463,944.

She added there was an increase in the number of people being caught on camera violating motoring laws because it was the first year Camden had taken over enforcement from police.

She said: "Initially a large number of contraventions were taking place in the areas in which enforcement was carried out, so a significant number of PCNs (penalty charge notices) were being issued. But, as drivers become more aware of this enforcement, the figures generally drop off in that area.

"This is encouraging as it suggests that the enforcement is encouraging motorists to drive more safely, which benefits everyone using our roads."

Camden issued a total 106,479 tickets for moving traffic offences including 24,514 for bus lane fines.

Overall in London there were more than five million parking tickets issued - an average of two for every car in the capital - raking in £279million in fines.
So what do they do with all that cash?

Or perhaps. What would they do without it?
