As more and more drivers are being hit with penalties for driving offences, e.g., speeding etc; and with the locations of speed cameras so openly available, surely we're all getting a bit more wiser to it all... but...

...if all motorists did obey speed limits and never 'offended', I wonder how long cameras would be maintained...

Would the Scammmers / Authorities:

* still develop and install better devices;

* continue to put up speed traps;

* pay for 'the Feds' to loiter behind bushes to catch speeding motorists?

If drivers stuck to driving within the speed limits, never jumped a red light and no longer offended on the roads... Scammers / Speed Enforcement Divisons would be out of business, right..?

cloud9 If only we could... just to see 'em fall.

Or - many speed limits would be further reduced?

Exactly. The 'third rule' where speeding is the cause of every accident will still be spun back at us and to make sure the scamerati dont lose thier jobs they will use the figures to advocate even lower speeds.

The other thing is that when more and more middle of the road drivers are being flashed they just buy a GPS device to warn them where the cameras are... Thus the amount of people caught drops off.

Well they already responded to a drop in speeds at scam sites by hiding vans with a bastard inside in odd locations to ensure the revenue keeps coming in, so if we all slowed down all theyd do is lobby to get the limits lowered again . They want us out of our cars, thats the ultimate aim but why miss out on the opportunity to screw a couple of million out of drivers while they do it? Theyd be mad not to.

Really hoping the scammers get ed over today, otherwise.....

Simple they'll just increase the number of monitored roads, by changing the goalposts instead of 2km from a KSI site it'll be 4 or 6 or 8. Then they'll reduce the speeds on masse. It's a never ending cycle until someone on an SCP gets done big time for PCJ etc.

About time the motoring public at large started to react accordingly to seeing a camera van on the road. Take Northern Ireland for example, when was the last time you saw one on the roads over there? bet you've never seen one near the Falls or Shanklin Roads hehe

I know personally know only 4 people who have points on their licence because of cameras. None of them have ever been in an accident, they are people have travelled as a passenger with very comfortably never fearing for myself or others on the road. They are certainly not nutters in any sense of the word, and are otherwise normal law abiding people who 5 years ago would have been deeply ashamed of having points on their licence.

Cameras don't catch "nutters" because the real ones drive stolen or unregistered cars against which cameras are worse than useless.

Do cameras catch "nutters"? I don't think so, as far as the statistics go, they catch perfectly good drivers while the "nutters" carry on as usual. By the way (sorry to others who have heard this many times), cameras don't seem to catch those who are most accident prone - the under 25s and the elderly. Being accident-prone and exceeding our (mainly too low) speed limits has little connection.

However, no matter how useless are cameras and speed traps in general, they are unlikely to be abandoned all the while there is money to be made and hopeless people thus given a job.

yes this is how they would keep the money rolling in. It's all for the sake of safety, you know.

We should all write to our MPs and other elected representatives saying that we hope that now that scameras have been shown to be useless they will all be scrapped.

Hey Asif you never exceed the speed limit. Not all us nutter under 25 year olds have accidents all the time.
Although a point you could argue is that when i was at high school last year about 14 senior students got cars. By the end about 6 were left. The rest written off. Mines still in 1 peice.

I think you miss the point slightly.

Regardless of who breaks the speed limit, speed cameras do not take photo's of those most likely to cause collisions. - No sorry I take that back, they may, on occasion, take photo's but that's it.

Hey, I break the limits all the time. You missed my point - under 25s and the elderly are least caught by cameras but are most accident-prone. It's plain statistics - that's why insurance companies load under 25s and the elderly - it's their business to knwo who is the higher risk.
